Volkswagen Concept Tiguan, plus boom-boom music

Volkswagen invited us to a star-studded Hollywood shindig to debut the Concept Tiguan. Well, mostly I ate hors d'oeuvres and downed champagne while trying to find a woman to talk to. Success on all counts! At least, I think so. Had a bit of champagne, you see.

Set in a swanky Hollywood studio on Melrose, Ludacris spun beats while star-stalkers mingled with journalists and VW brass, none of whom wore name tags. I pretended I was a producer, even though I have no clue what a producer does. Christian Slater, Danny Masterson, members of the Wu Tang Clan, and David Spade were confirmed to show up, but since the camera adds 20 pounds, I didn't recognize them. Heck, celebrities are inevitably much shorter than you expect them to be, so I probably looked right over the tops of their heads.

Oh, the Tiguan? Yeah, it was there, but oddly enough it was treated as a sideshow, a diversion. I guess when Adam Brody's in the house, it's a tough act to follow. A VW talking head confirmed that it's pretty close to the production version, and that "he's working on" getting the snappy tires put into production. Which is another way of saying "keep dreaming."

Check out our story on the Tiguan in our LA Auto Show coverage.

Delete the orange tires and the funky leather and that's the production model, too.

I think VW did well here. The Touareg and Rabbit are too, I dunno, soft. This is edgier, more aggressive, and splits the difference in terms of size. I think they hit the sweet spot.

This one will sell well if they price is realistically.

I love it. I love the color, the masculinity and the size. Wow, I sound gay! Wait, I am. But seriously - I do love it and if they don't muck it up (and do offer this cool color) AND ... keep the panoramic roof already! I'm sick of getting excited about vehicles until the droll production versions show up. The last car that captivated me was the Infiniti FX (which I bought). Do it right, Volkswagen. Oh, and I like the name.

Definately the best looking cute ute available. Hoping for the nice TDI.
