One big reason it wouldn't work here is that it's not that great looking unless you know (and appreciate) the original. But I thought the original was ugly, so I probably have a worse impression than most.
On the other hand, I've heard it's more spacious than a Mini and a lot lighter, so it's not as bad with such a small engine. I mean wow, it weighs as little as my old Tercel but with more power, infinitely more "niceness" and decent dynamics to boot. It also seems to be inexpensive enough that it would do well here. The Aveo sells, after all.

I think it's fantastic. I would love to read a test with the diesel motor in one of these things. Should easily get over 50mpg and still be fun to drive.

It's too toy-like, and without the nostalgia factor that it enjoys in Europe it would sell about as well as the equally dorky Echo did.
From some angles it looks like a Storm Trooper helmet! LOL

Looks like the offspring from a VW New Beetle and a Mini Cooper.

Well, first of all Fiat would have to get over here.
For $7,000 (€9500), that's a great deal. While I imagine a huge markup would take place between Italy and here, if it were to remain significantly cheaper than the Fit or xD, it should do well. Headroom in the back looks atrocious, but supposedly it'll get a 5 star safety rating.

Ha! A Storm Trooper helmut. We should do a post about what cars look most like things from Star Wars. I always thought the back of the BMW X5 looked like a Storm Trooper helmut, only when they're white though. --Donna

Sounds like a viable alternative to the SMART cars soon to be imported here. But Fiat's no longer in the USA, so the 500 isn't coming here anytime soon.

I'm not really a fan of these tiny city cars like this, the Smart fortwo, and the Mini Cooper but it somehow this looks way cooler than those two combined. It's way cheaper too, and I think it should be sent to the US.

I would buy one in a heartbeat. My wife drives a Mini Cooper, and I told her that if Fiat brings this to the USA I will have a car that is smaller and prettier than hers. I spent a lot of time in the original Fiat 500s and 600s back in the late 60s and early 70s, so there is a nostalgia element for me. We live in a place where agility and ease of parking are major factors, so these little cars are great for us. They don't seem that little to those of us who drove the originals (Minis and Fiats).

I had a friend that used to Race one of the early two cylinder versions of these in the SCCA. The car was as much fun as the early Mini Coopers. Given the increasing fuel prices and space at a premium in crowded cities I would certainly consider this car as a commuter. It would be more fun to drive with a manual trans than a Smart car and more cost effective than a Mini Cooper.
