Good News (Chrysler LLC), Bad News (Ford)

The good news is that the Chrysler-Cerberus is now official, as papers to that effect were signed by all parties on Friday. The new company's name is Chrysler LLC, and Monday they are going to reveal an updated version of the old Pentastar logo.

There's a lot of excitement here as most everyone close to the situation thinks this will be a great opportunity for all involved. Key to success here is that they have to move fast, and don't screw anything up, as there's no room (or time) for mistakes. As to the "moving fast part," that's already happening. Expect big changes—quickly.

Full story here.

The bad news is that Ford just announced a huge recall of 3.6M vehicles bringing the total recall to 10.4M vehicles (OUCH!). It affects a wide range of vehicles built between 1991 and 2004. The recall is related to the cruise control switch which apparently is somewhat fire-prone. Models involved are Fords, Lincolns and Mercurys; cars, trucks and SUVs.

This is the largest recall for a single vehicle problem in U.S. history It's a tremendous setback for Ford, as they are struggling to turn this company around. This is the last thing they needed.

I thought this recall had been issued? When my mother owned her 2000 Expedition EB 4x4 she got a letter in the mail about the potential fire hazard related to the cruise control system. The letter bascially told her to take her vehicle in and get the defective part(s) replaced and she did.

There are already several cases of house fires related to this recall as a few Expedition owners were awakened or came home to find their house was on fire. Serious stuff!

Ford should recall every single car that has the defective module, which literally translated to every single car and SUV that were sold between 1990s and 2004 with crusie control. Instead, they first denied the problem and then tried to cover it up, forcing consumers and agencies to fight for their rights. Sounds just like "Firestone" and Ford never learn. Don't buy Ford until they sack every "Ford" from management.

I thought it had too. Also, I had no idea the problem was so widespread. All the way fron '91? A '91 Ford anything is a fire hazard in it's own right.
There must've been some hotshot lawyer who took up the case. Otherwise Ford would never have issued the recall (Ford has the best lawyers in the biz).

A recall isn't bad per se, but this one will be costly.

There is also a petition going around thats related to the Triton series V8 and V10 engines. These motors tend to blow spark plugs literally out of the head because there isnt enough thread to hold them in place. When the plug blows out it usually takes the few threads and coil pack with it. After that a new head is virutally mandatory and its not cheap. Ford states that its the sparkplug and will not cover it. This isnt happening to just a few trucks, cars, and SUV's, its litterally in the thousands but mostly in Ford F150s and Expeditions with the 5.4 V8 from 1997-2003. My mother was a victim of this.

Follow the link below, there was a quote from a Ford tech saying " these motors are starting to drop like flies". The same guy also sold his Ford Expedition before it could happen to him.
