Shelby Supercars Ultimate Aero sets world speed record

Shelby Supercars can now claim as to owning the "world speed record for a production car." Their new Twin-turbo 1183 hp Ultimate Aero set a two-way average of 255.83 mph, breaking the unofficial record held by the Bugatti Veyron by 3.11 mph. The highest speed in one direction was 257.11 mph, and the return trip it posted a 254.55 mph, and when averaged together, ended up with an "official" 255.83 mph for the record as per Guinness World Records rules. Even more amazing is this was held on a closed stretch of highway in the state of Washington.

Does Carroll Shelby ever get old? It looks like he put some pepper in his chili this time! Bobby Vassallo - Fellow Texan

Wow, unbelievable. 1183hp!! Anyway this was predictable, as it was only a matter of time before something beat the Veyron's records. Still the Veyron looks cooler to me.

the Veyron is still a much more impressive achievement because it is such an easy car to drive and it manages to be comfortable and be fast and handle like nothing else
And Bugatti Veyron sounds so much better then SSC Ultimate Aero

A production car you can't buy. Hmmm. I just looked into purchasing info (to find a price) and that information is "not releasible" to the general public.

It looks like a Lambo to me.

I like this comment taken from the second link:
"There are more road-legal 917s than there are SSCs.
How is this a production car with production of 1?"

Making a road car to go 250 mph is one thing; making a 250mph race car to be road legal is another.
