2007 Tokyo Auto Show: Mitsubishi Concept ZT

As at any auto show, there are concept cars and there are "concept cars." Some concepts are there just as eye candy and a workout for designers' oddest fantasies. (Many of this variety of concept are actually edible.) Other concepts exist to prepare the press and public for a production vehicle. The Mitsubishi concept with the really unfortunate name, the ZT, is of the latter variety. It is a styling concept for the next-generation Mitsubishi large sedan...

This vehicle is known as the Galant or Diamante. Don't hold your breath though. You'll have to live with the unloved current car for a while longer. Mitsubishi is also using this vehicle as a place to feature the company's newest technologies including a new clean-diesel 2.2-liter motor, dual-clutch SST transmission and an electronic limited-slip differential. -- Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit, Inside Line

I love it when diesel becomes a "newest technology."

Not a bad-looking car. Mitsu desperately needs it.

This is one car I really hope gets produced quickly. The styling is awesome, like the Lancer but stretched out a bit. The long wheelbase should really help the handling and rear seat room.
