2007 Tokyo Auto Show: Honda CR-Z

Just yesterday, we participated in a roundtable discussion with Honda CEO Takeo Fukui. To no one’s surprise, Fukui said Honda has big plans for its Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system. At the top of the list is a new dedicated hybrid car that will go on sale in 2009. He described the new car as sporty, incredibly efficient and inexpensive compared to Honda’s current hybrid models...
He also said plug-in hybrids seemed wasteful, but that’s another story.
Today at the Tokyo auto show, Fukui presided over the introduction of the CR-Z concept. It’s small, sporty and would probably be pretty efficient if it had a hybrid drivetrain. Fukui certainly seemed to think so, and although he didn’t say the CR-Z was Honda’s next hybrid, he did say that a production version of the CR-Z was definitely in the works. Not very hard to connect those dots.
