The video for this article is must-see TV, folks! Josh Jacquot really does a number on the rear Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s at what appears to be Big Willow (if I'm not mistaken...if I am, the tire-punishing was done at The Streets of Willow Springs)!

Fake quad tailpipes FTL (for the loss)!

It sure sounds great. Ironic that I was somehow expecting to hear a Supra-inspired scream.

The tailpipe fiasco (yes, I'm labeling it a fiasco) is shameful. I for one, actually like the idea (though the actual implementation could use work), but the fact that they're fake is a big deal breaker.

Josh sure got it sideways. It looks like a ton of fun to drive. Does it feel heavy? I'd imagine it drives similar to a G37, only torquier.

That 8-speed is unreal. How were the shifts?

Strong!!!... I've Driven the IS250 & IS350... I can't Wait to Demo the IS-F

Although I do like the engine roar it seems as if its between the RS4's spine tingling banshee wail and the AMG63's brute American muscle car tone.

If Lexus could somehow make it more involving and add a manual transmission I could this car being much better.

hondacura4 - Oct 24, 2007 5:21 pm (#5 Total: 19)

This car must have pretty strong midrange-top end power as the trap speed thorugh the 1/4 (109mph) is a bit on the high side compared to its ET of 13.2.

So they have an engine that is 5 liters vs 4 liters of the BMW M3, yet it makes basically the same powah? Add useless on the street suspension, not as good as could be steering and amazingly ugly looks (I think the standard IS300 looks great) and we have a wiener.
The transmission does seem like it's really good in the manual mode, but 8 speeds? With a big V8? Why?
M3 and S4r have nuttin to worry about. I'm guessing a 335i with a chip will have nothing to worry about either on the streets...

I am surprise that IS-F is actually good for track, but not for street. If they intended to built F line for the track, why don't they spend a bit more time to dump useless technologies and kits to loose at least 400lbs? If buyers don't mind the ride, they probably don't mind it to be a "Superleggera" either.

The picture shows real quad tailpipes directly behind the fake quad tailpipes.
So the car does have 4 real pipes; they're just not connected to the 4 fake pipe tips.
Shame Lexus didn't bother connecting them. What's the deal? Burnt fascia?

The M3 and GT-R both have adjustable suspensions.
Does anybody know if all the other cars in this price range have adjustable suspensions?

Automobile Magazine caused a fire in California -- a brake fire!

Thanks for that link SubyT! They did not like the transmission. Guess there's nothing left for me to like in the car then!

"Unfortunately, the transmission uses the same curiously spaced gears as it does in the LS460. To wit, first, second, and third are so far apart that you're constantly wishing for another couple of gears in between, especially on slow, twisty roads. Conversely, the higher gears are so closely spaced that half of them seem superfluous. Case in point: when you are cruising at 50 mph in eighth gear, you need to pull the left gearshift paddle six times to downshift to your optimum passing gear. This confuses the transmission and results in no additional forward progress for what seems like an eternity."

Just read the road test and saw the video. Nice! Those are some serious numbers from Lexus, I never really thought we'd see something like that from a brand which is an offshoot of Toyota.

I want a comparison test! C63 AMG vs. CTS-V vs. IS-F vs. M3 vs. RS4.

With 8 forward gears, how can you not have a narrow gear ratio?

Because that would make too much sense, estreka. :o)

Maybe Toyota/Lexus wanted the car to get "decent" fuel economy.

I "drove" the car in the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue demo and noticed how poorly spaced the gears are. I thought, "I hope the real-life gear ratios aren't like this." If I remember correctly, I was only using 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to circulate around the Suzuka full circuit.

It's also interesting that Inside Line and Automobile Magazine both highlighted how poorly the vehicle rode under everyday conditions. On the flip side of the coin, Autoweek's article of the IS-F didn't.

I guess at that price we can be hyper-critical.

You guys have to sit in those seats. Incredible. Just incredible.

I got to sit in one (not drive though) at the Taste of Lexus.

I guess the seats would have to be incredible when the suspension bites.

Man, am I ornery today!

Daytona, doesnt Cadillac benchmark the M5 for the CTS-V?

dvsutton - Jan 8, 2008 11:38 pm (#18 Total: 19)

Why would I want one of these overpriced Toyotas when the new Cadilac CTS-V blows it away?

If any one was wondering on the IS-F the Quad Tail pipes are functionally so if you have watched the video on Edmund's about the IS-F do not listen to the part about the four tail pipes not really working ok.
