Good comparison. I semi-agree with Desmo's point. Its funny, in the comparison between just the G and the 335 the BMW won. Hmmm. Also, there is a typo in the caption for the CTS's engine. The 3.6 DI makes 304 hp, not 204. Makes a big difference.

I like the G35 BUT I cant get over the lack of refinement compared to the 335i Sport. This is a major decision breaker for me when I purchase a car (along with a list of other things), manual or not. Yes I will pay extra for a better meshed together, more efficient, more powerful drivetrain and better overall chassis composure.
Send the G35 to finishing school, send the CTS to Jenny Craig, send the C350 to the gym, and send the Lexus to.....somewhere where it can focus on the "sport" part of the equation.
A 335i Sport 4dr door the way I want it would cost $45,900. This includes the Sport pkg, Premium pkg, Cold Weather pkg, and Comfort Access. No this isnt cheap, but none of the other cars offer that FREE MAINTENCE for 4 years or 50K as that in itself is hard to overlook. But, I understand that some will not and cannot ignore the value of the Infiniti G Sport. All of these cars (not one bad car here) will be interesting to individual buyers but the 335i Sport is still the best car for ME!
I will give credit where its due, congrats Infiniti!

So let me get this straight, a brand new 335i lost to an old G35?

I would send the 335i to a cosmetic surgent.
IS350 needs acting classes since it performs well number wise but lacks the "feel".

Didya go to homecoming Loren? Man I mooched so much free food on campus from various charitable booths! Guess I need all the breaks I can get, seeing how much a worse value my Bimmer is!

No. I didn't go to homecoming even though I could've purchased a ticket from a friend. The only USC football home game I want to go to this year is against UCLA.
Instead, I chose to change my car's rear brake pads (Ferodo DS2500 for those interested - best street/track brake pads I've used to date...they're not cheap and dust quite a bit...but when performance matters the most (no, I'm not talking about Old Spice Red Zone deodorant like college football fans will see commercials of during games or in EA SPORTS' NCAA Football video games)) and bleed the brake fluid in preparation for a track day at Laguna Seca this Saturday. :dancing banana: :o)
Your post made me think. I wonder what percentage of Inside Line readers (read: auto enthusiasts) would simply want to know which vehicles performed better in the comparison test, price be da__ed.
Wouldn't it be cool if a "Poll" feature was added to IL Comparison Tests?

Actually, I had expected to see the top 3 clustered closely in points and the bottom 2 trailing at a good distance. Didn't expect the somewhat even distribution.
As far as price-dependent and price-independent rankings, one of the major print mags printed both. I thought it useful.

Typical for Nissan; give it a manual transmission and it becomes annoying to drive. Take it away and it wins.

Nissan 'wins'? Funny how Edmunds' final score does not reflect the actual test.
The BMW won 22 of the individual categories, the Nissan 2...
The BMW won the 'Recommended' category which pretty much says it all:
"Recommended Rating (5%): After the test, each participating editor was asked to rank the vehicles in order of preference based on which he or she thought would be best for the average consumer shopping in this segment."
So the final result to give victory to the Nissan because it is cheaper is a joke.

$10 grand is a lot of money, even in this class.
If price wasn't a factor, you would buy an M3, not a 335i.

if price wasn't a factor you would buy a 5-series or 7-series
doesn't matter what the category is(except for super cars) value is almost always important

No matter how the others try, BMW is still on top, period! This is a comparo of similarly powered ELPSS, so M3, 5, 7 series are out of the question.

I was so shocked to see a car finally beat the 3 series. Every comparison that involves a 3 series, whether its the convertible, M3, 335i always has the BMW on top. Great job to Infiniti. As for the BMW, I cant believe it costs that much yet lacks a nav system, and they really should fix their cupholder design and placement.
Kudos to the CTS for a 3rd place finish, I was actually thinking it would be at the bottom of the heap.

Again...
BMW won 22 of the individual categories including Overall Dynamics, Engine Performance, Brake Performance, Steering Performance, Handling, Fun to Drive, Ride Comfort, Front Seat Comfort, Driving Position, Overall Design and Build Quality etc etc
Nissan won 2.
If that isn't an absolute thrashing of its opponents, I don't know what is!
Is the BMW worth $10K more? Absolutely, especially seeing the Nissan placed dead last in Overall Design and Build Quality. There's a reason it's cheaper...

Desmo, I agree fully. Some things are worth the price.

So the 335i is better than the G37 (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/Comparos/articleId=121462) but not as good as the G35? Interesting.
You might want to consider revising your conclusion because, as has been mentioned, everything but price/features per dollar argues in favour of the BMW, according to your article and video. It sounds like the G35 "won" this challenge solely on account of its having more tech toys for the price. Is that really what Edmunds feels makes a car great?
If we're putting so much emphasis on their purchase prices, then why don't we also look at:
1. servicing costs over 3 years (should narrow the gap a tiny bit since purchase of a BMW includes standard service for 3 years).
2. leasing vs financing. If you actually look into it you'll see that despite the price difference (MSRP), the actual payments work out to be almost the same. Let's be realistic. Most people driving brand new BMWs or G35s are leasing or financing, and not purchasing outright. Of the leasing/financing group, the majority of those are leasing. When I was looking to purchase the difference in payments (lease) was about $10 per month.
3. resale value. The BMW will have a higher resale value than the Infiniti at 3, 5 10 years down the road.
I'm just saying. You went there, Straightline.

I think the g35 should have won... I love the 335i but the Infiniti has tried and succeeded. First of all they have to beat the point that bmw is a european company which for some people makes a HUGE difference and they have to beat the point that bmw could look like a peanut with wheels and people would still love it!
infiniti has grea feautures like touchscreen, reversal camera, smart key, 306hp, and its just an overall good drive!
i give props to the infiniti, but bmw still a great car!
