Dual-Clutch Transmissions to increase fivefold

Great news for fans of Dual-Clutch Trannys, as the manufacturer, Borg Warner, expects sales to increase 500 percent over the next six years. Right now less than 450,000 dual-clutch transmissions are made annually. However by 2012-2013 the company expects to be making 2.3 million per year.

Here's Inside Line's take: Dual-Clutch Transmission Production To Skyrocket

Don't forget the new Subaru Impreza WRX STI will get an Aisin-sourced dual-clutch automated manual transmission in its second or third model year, folks! :o)

I don't doubt this at all. They may even be forecasting conservatively.

Lot of effort just to please people who can't figure out a clutch.

Thanks for the article Bob!

I'm hoping DCTs catch on. It's a great evolution for the manual tranny.

Firstwagon,

Also faster shifts than with a manual and 10% more efficient than regular automatics is what I've heard.

It would be cool if they had a manual dual clutch transmision. Four pedal drivng. It would work like this.... There would be 2 gear shift levers and 2 clutch pedals. You would then move the second gear shift lever into the next gear. When you wanted to shift, you would simply depress clutch pedal number 1 and let clutch pedal 2 out.

On second thought....

Firstwagon,

Wow, ever consider some people can drive a manual and prefer a dual-clutch tranny? My drives stick but she felt the DSG-equipped A3 was more fun. Her car, her choice. i'll keep my manual but I can't say she's uncoordinated as she's driven/s our manual-equipped BMWs and Mini.
