CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around The Auto Blog Block for Saturday, November 17, 2007
Ford fired a new Bullit out in San Francisco this week and early reviews suggest the special edition Mustang is a bullseye, so how about we get loaded and hit the road for this week's drive around the auto blog block to see what we can see!
Speaking of that new Bullit,
Autoblog's Drew Phillips was there for the
Ride and Drive and reports there is lots of sweetness in this new edition of the Steve McQueen-inspired pony car classic.
They've got this great old
high-speed track at Nardo in Italy and AC Schnitzer has this really cool natural gas-powered Three Series Bimmer and all the other tuner guys were there, so why not show off, you know?
4WheelsBlog has the details on the European Tuners World Series.
Adrian Imonti of
The Truth About Cars was in LA for the Green Car of the Year Award and came away somewhat less than impressed with what he saw. Frankly, I have to agree that adding 400 pounds of battery to an already heavyweight Chevy Tahoe with a 6.0 liter V-8 doesn't immediately come to mind as
the ideal approach to a hybrid.
Next time you find yourself daydreaming about the good ole days when the
Ford Fairmont was Dearborn's big step toward saving America from imported oil addiction, the
Amazon.com Automotive Editors Blog has just the thing you need. Speaking as a former owner of a gray-with-red interior Mercury Zephyr with a 302 V-8 and the sport suspension, I can honestly say I do have a fond memories of the vehicle. But don't hold it against me, okay?
And just to appreciate how far autos have come in the three decades since the Fairmont was the best Ford could do, check out
The Driving Woman where Tamara Warren required about three seconds to fall
head over heels in love with the V-10 powered Audi S8.
For yet another illustration of what happens when people with pea-sized brains are allowed to drive, check out t
his video from
The Auto Prophet. Where does he find this stuff?
Speaking of Mustangs - and we were -
Serious Wheels has a collection of superb photography of the Saleen S302 Extreme, which is motivated by a
620 horsepower, turbocharged and inter-cooled small block. Like I always say, too much horsepower is just about right.
Here's the most encouraging sentence I've read all week:
"The Malibu is the first mainstream American car in 25 years that needs no "buts..." or "almost as good as..." disclaimers of any kind, and it's more than a worthy competitor to the Camry and the Accord. In fact, after driving the three entries I consider it to be the best mid-size car on the market right now."Who said it? Believe me, Peter DeLorenzo of
AUTOEXTREMIST doesn't make claims like that every day. In fact, I don't recall ever
reading anything like that from Peter. BTW, if you haven't gotten your copy of
"The United States of Toyota" yet, give yourself an early Christmas present.
And on that happy note, have a great Thanksgiving and I will see you back here next week.

What is the content of the post? The bright colored text is illegible.

I remember hearing something vaguely similar to this somewhere in relation to the Aura that leads me to assume that an LT test will be a more accurate approach.
