2008 Detroit Auto Show Preview: 2009 Kia Borrego

Kia has just introduced the Mohave SUV in Korea. We will see it here next week, but badged as the Borrego, at the Detroit Auto Show. Straightline did a blog entry a bit earlier on this vehicle (2009 Kia Mohave (Borrego) undressed). The general specs look to point this vehicle squarely at the Explorer and Pathfinder, as it will come Stateside as a 7-passenger model with either a 3.8L V6 or a 4.6L V8, hooked up to a 6-speed automatic.

Way too late. That segment doesn't exist anymore.

If it's truck based and priced right it might do very well.

Not everyone wants a minivan pretending to be an SUV.

I agree. It looks good, and should do reasonably well in the market.

Is it Borrego or Borrago?

This could very well crush the Nissan Pathfinder.

If the average buyer would do some research he/she can cleary find out which SUV's are truly SUVs. That comment makes it seem like there are manufacturers marketing CUV/crossovers as serious off-road bandits or serious towing machines when they arent. Thats certainly not the case.

I thought this thing was supposed to be full-sized? Are there any specs for the thing running around?

Did Kia get together with Subaru to copy the most boring parts of the latest Chrysler designs? I'm falling asleep just looking at this thing. Plus, didn't Chrysler prove that this segment is dead with the dud launch of the Aspen?

NO, Chrysler just proved that the average american is smart enough to see through lame badge engineering attempts like the "Duraspen"

It really depends on how they price this thing. There's still a (shrinking, but still there) market for mid-size true SUVs. Look at the 4Runner.

I hoped it would look more like the bold concept, though.

If you want a crossover get a Veracruz. Kudos to Kia for not just rebadging a clone of that.
