Follow-Up Test: 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha

Follow-Up Test: 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha

With a 5.3-liter, 300-horsepower V8, the Alpha version of the H3 has more power than the base model and the same off-road prowess.

What do you think of Hummer styling, silly or cool?

I think it was cool on the H1 because it wasn't so much styled, it was more just the shape of the metal needed to covered all that cool hardware.

Since the H2 and H3 are styled that way for an image and the truck they were styled after has been discontinued, the verdict is ... not Cool, just silly.

The styling is fine, but there just needs to be a better compromise with regard to visibility: lower the belt line a few inches and lower the spare tire at the same time.

Hummer styling has always been cool. If you want silly styling look at the new Honda products, with the exception of the Accord.

The new Accord's ass looks like a Saturn L-series.

I'm not a big fan of the Hummer line, but even I'll admit the styling is not only good, but also has a uniqueness that few other brands have (see orangutan's comment...). Hopefully at some point GM can get a 6 cyl diesel in the H3, or at least something better than the I5 both power and fuel-economy wise, which would make this more of a contender against the 4runner/explorer/pathfinder bof suv's of the world.

For me, the smaller each Hummer gets, the more appealing they become. I can't wait to see the even smaller H4 Wrangler-fighter, when it's announced.

I think the H2 looks like it was designed by a 16-year-old for a 16-year-old. It's a big dorky kid trying really hard to be cool.

The H3's proportions are less absurd, which makes for a smarter looking package overall. I suppose that means I agree with Bob.

Here in politically correct DC, I'd feel more than a bit silly in that thing.

I supposed out on the trail it would be more at home, but an off roader should have better visibility so you can see the corners.

Just bring a spotter.

This just makes me wonder why the FJ Cruiser does not have a rear view camera.
The interior of the H3 is much much nicer than both the FJ and the Wrangler, but then it does cost about $10k more than those too.

"This just makes me wonder why the FJ Cruiser does not have a rear view camera. "

Makes me wonder why any car company can get away with any design so poor that it needs a rear view camera.

Actually, the FJ offers a rear camera option if I'm not mistaken. It should be standard as the rear visibility is so bad.

Anybody who buys one should be sent to Iraq.

Hummer H3 will definitely be better from its predecessors due to smaller size and the top model with V8, 5.3 liter engine will be a real off road monster.
