I would say that no wagon version of the 6 will be making it across the pond this time around... seeing that the 6-wagon was dropped from the line-up for at LEAST the 08 model-year (if not also the 07).
'Tis a shame really. I always thought the 6-wagon was one of the best looking out there... albeit a tad pricey.

maybe it's the photo but the euro version looks the same shape.
differences I noticed on the euro version-
1. better grille
2. blackout headlights (but the same shape-no difference in shape, proportion or cutlines compared to the euro model)
3. added lower scoops on the front bumper edge
4. revised foglight buckets
5. trunklid & taillights on the trunklid are different
6. taillights are different style but same shape (on the body)
7. lower rear bumper cover is different
seems like minor cosmetic difference although the US grille is unfortunate.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a good 6 wagon. that would be a leading contender for purchase- esp if they have a MazdaSpeed6 Wagon version

It looks like I'm part of the minority on this one, but I think this looks really nice! In my opinion, it's one of the best looking in its class.

i think we have Ford to thank for uglifying all the US market cars.
mazda6 uglier than the Atenza
US Focus uglier than Euro Focus
US taurus hideous compared to Mondeo
and don't give me crap about the Mondeo being such an expensive car that it would be in the Bimmer3 or Lexus IS market. There's NO reason a car plant in the US can't make the mondeo's platform and sheet metal. All they have to do is take out all the bells and whistles options and offer packages available on the taurus.

This new 6 even rides on the Mondeo platform.

it's not bad, but as the owner of an '05 mazda6, i like the current gen better. :(
the rear end is beautiful though...the front end...um...awkward.

I think a lot of this is the color. I don't like the front end at all. It's definately distinctive, yet somehow hopelessly generic (or maybe geriatric?). I like the rear, though. I'd be curious to see a hatchback.

The reality is American Car makers just don't get it. They keep making hideous looking cars for the US Market. While their European brand models look beautiful. I don't get why they just don't sell their European versions here in the states. And they wonder why they continue to lose market share???

Ford sucks!
They cheapified the car by taking out the nice mesh grille that the Atenza has and they took away the folding mirrors (so people living in the city can have them broken off and pay 200 dollars to fix them). Not only that the Atenza has the license plate on the rear bumper, where it looks better.
That nose is so goofy ugly and generic looking all at the same time.

Why, oh why could we not have recieved the awesome looking Euro/Japanese model instead of this "re-engineered" version of what we already have? Not to mention that the front end styling leaves me cold. It's amazing how subtle dimensions here and there have such an impact on overall appearance. While the overall shapes are similar to the Euro spec model, the net result does not have nearly the visual impact!
I have an '03 6s that I will be replacing in another 18 months. Sadly, I doubt that it will be with the car shown here.

Gorgeous. This will have mass market appeal. It may not be what those of us who disect cars are looking for, but, it will have a successful run. The only things i really dont like are the out of proportion non folding mirrors and the silver surrounds on the foglamps. Remember the previous generation Accord? It was fugly but sold like hotcakes. This is far better looking and shoots straight for the middle between the Accord and Camry. The Camry almost looks boring now.

wasn't it supposted to be originally released in spring of 2008 or did I read early writeups on it wrong?

The only thing seriously different is the headlamp design, grille and bumper, these things can be easily fixed, the interior will be very good looking.
I doubt Ford had much to do with this.
Also, come on the back of the euro version looked like it was sebring inspired, I LOVE the rear end design.

Love the shape, fastback-rear end, very stylish alloys. The front-end and headlamps, however, destroy it all. Very Mr. Toad, though with the 3.7L, maybe a wild ride could make up for it?

If Mazda would just stop putting stupid "sport" grilles on the 3 and 6 they would look a whole lot more upscale than they do now. Why can't they just put a black egg-crate grille with a chrome surround on both cars? I was so disappointed when the base Mazda3 received such a grille and the "s" model was given that tacky body colored monstrosity. It's grown on me a little, but the front end of our new Mazda6 is just an eyesore.
Why couldn't Mazda just keep the 6 as a "world" car and give us the version Europe is getting? It's bad enough that we're getting screwed out of the hatchback and wagon, but they could at least leave us with a nice looking sedan. I just wish Americans were allowed to have wagons, but automakers don't seem to want us to...unless you buy a Subie, Saab or Volvo, that is.

I just noticed the Euro 6 has a crease in the center of the hood that adds a little something. I just hope it's slightly retarded cousin at least looks the same in profile. And we better have the option of shifting for ourselves! James J. O'Sullivan, we will not forgive you if you deprive us of what the Mazda6 could be. I will personally kick your ass for dumbing down such a fine automobile.

At least the headlights appear to be the same size as the Euro version, maybe we can switch them out. But those taillights definitly are not swap-able. It is kind of old with Mazda/Ford doing this with the mid-size Mazda in the US. At least this isn't as bad as how the last gen 626 US version looked compared to the rest of the world's 626. THAT was upsetting, this is just iritating.
The next 6 had been something we were looking forward to as a possible next car. I thought the US would be getting the 5-door version, but if not that will certainly knock it down quite far on the shopping list. Maybe just look for a good deal on the current 6 5-door.

i really don't blame you guys for talking about the front end of the new 2009 mazda 6 i mean Mazda should have left it alone and make the front end much like the european counterpart.the back however looks fine and i would like to see this car in person so that way i would know what i really think about the new car. the current mazda 6 looks very good at every angle imaginal so like i said i have to see what this new one looks like in person..they just should not mess with the front end period.
