I was going to call it the T8, but numbers aren't allowed.

Same with caps, lower case, or punctuation. Bummer. My suggestion won't work either. :(

It really is too bad this isn't going to come forth as a Chevy... But it looks cool and if I could afford it I would buy it.

Pontiac might be the performance division, but put it with Chevy as well. It would open it up to V6 models to SS models, and could bring back the El Camino name. ONLY Chevy should have that name, remember the Charger name and how everybody burned Dodge for it? With a V6 it would open it to plenty of trade people with a need for fuel effiency.

I think El Camino or Caballero would be disasterous names for this thing.
Then again, I don't really predict big things from it anyways.....ie Subaru Baja.

I agree. El Camino is a Chevy name, and Caballero is a GMC name. If you're going to link it to the past, it needs some sort of Pontiac reference.
I guess they could bring back the "TransSport" name.

What happened to all the people who said the Ridgeline wasnt a "real pickup"? Using that logic this CAR with a bed isnt a real pick either.
That aside, I like the way it looks and the performance should be good also.

How 'bout Tempest?
Hey, they put 4 doors on the Charger, so don't give me the body style argument. ;-)
Honestly, though, this should be a Chevy El Camino.
Look at the Saturn Aura - slow sales. The clone from Chevy will do better (Malibu).

The problem with that logic, hondacura4, is that the Ridgeline is (or was?) trying pretty hard to be a true truck, just based on a car, with 4wd, ground clearance, capacity, etc. In that regard, it is considered by some to have come up a bit short.
This, on the other hand, is trying to be a *car* with a bed and modest towing & hauling capabilities. Further, it's just a very modern take on something that once upon a time did fairly well in the US market (being some of the afforementioned nameplates some are proposing to revive for this one).

jerry,
Honda has said themselves that the goal of the Ridgeline was never to be a "true" truck. From the get-go, Honda was very open about it being an urban design meant to suit the needs of consumers that wanted truck-like capabilities, but still have good road manners and respectable MPG.
This Ute will fill a slightly different role than the Ridgeline, IMO. First of all, it's more of a performance machine. I don't see very many people cross-shopping this thing with the Honda unless people are strictly worried about the utility aspect.
I'm all about this vehicle, but I would advise GM against expecting huge sales numbers from this thing. They need to have reasonable expectations.

I agree. I see this Pontiac as more of a play truck, which is okay. I think those buying the Ridgeline will be less interested in quarter-mile times, and more interested in how it performs at Home Depot.

The one thing that worries me is the potential that Pontiac might make a 4 door version, eliminating any utility this might have.

It's a neat "truck", but I agree that I wouldn't expect big numbers out of it. Maybe I am wrong, but I think sales will be around what the Chevy SSR did. And that truck didn't last very long.

estreka,
I'd actually like to see a four door version of it. I think only having a "single cab" design will kind of limit sales. Maybe if they did a four door design they could incorporate some kind of system in the bed like the Avalanche has?
thebigal,
The SSR also cost wayyyyy too much for what it was. I'd expect to see the Ute starting well under $30K with a higher performance model topping out around $40K. Similar to the G8.

Extravagant work of Pontiac, they're truly one of a kind car maker. My buddy said, his gonna have one of that but he said he'll have to buy a Pontiac bumper cover for this sports pick up car. His vain, isn't he?
