2009 Infiniti FX35 (not FX37)

Most of us expected the smaller engined all-new FX to be powered by a version of the new 3.7L V6 found in the G37. Nope, not gonna happen... At least not yet, as the new 2009 FX V6 will retain the 3.5 engine. Hey! That's a great engine too—and it did just fine in the last FX.

I liked the last FX because it was.....different. I dont like the new FX at all as it seems as if its trying too hard. The overall design just doesnt do much for me.

Im starting to think Japanese car design is going down the drain.

How's that? The new FX is just an evolution of the current model's styling direction. The same themes are being explored.

Frankly I like it better than the old model.

I like the new model better as well. But I do hope they've upped the luxury ante a bit in the interior. It didn't feel quite special enough to me in the last generation.

I wonder if they chose to keep the 3.5L in order to maintain enough distance from the V8. The V6 is pretty powerful as it is.

I think this was a good redesign. Although it's kind of disappointing we won't get the 3.7L yet, the 3.5L is a great engine. My only problem with this redesign is the headlights seem oddly shaped. I'll probably get used to them though.

Yo - big news was buried in there, Bob. The FX35 will have a 7-speed automatic transmission. Hopefully this is a move that we can expect in the G, EX, and M.

I wonder what it cost to rebuild a 7 speed automatic?

Oops! I forgot to mention that. Good catch—and thanks! :)

Funny thing is all the Nissan/Infiniti crossovers just don't seem space efficient. The new EX is tiny inside. The FX is about as small as a mid-sizer can get. Murano and Rogue don't offer the cargo space of their boxier competitors.

The styling is consistent, but all of them seem to put form over function. To get function in a Nissan, you have to get a truck, I suppose.

They put more emphasis on "sporty" rather than "function."

The new 7-speed is destined to end up in the G, M, and EX in a few years. As for how much it will help with real world fuel economy, probably won't amount to much.....:-/

I'm guessing that Infiniti wants to compete with the Porshe Cayenne just because of the specs. The 3.6 in the Cayenne makes 290 and the 4.8 makes 385 and 369lb-ft. Thats the same amount of torque in the FX50 and five less horsepower. I assume the 3.7 could've out done the 3.6 by as much as 40 horse power.(330 hp)
