$200,000 Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament

Manhattan Motorcars, a New York Rolls-Royce dealer, has commissioned a $200,000 "Spirit of Ecstasy" hood ornament. As a point of reference, this hood ornament costs about half of what a Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase sedan costs. Think about that.

So how can a silly hood ornament cost so much? Simple. Just add 150 carats of D color VVS1 quality diamonds and some fancy intense yellow diamonds on the wings, and BINGO... $200K!

This is the only such hood ornament in existence. Any bets on who might buy it? I vote for "The Donald." How 'bout you?

Wow. You'd have to be pretty darn selective about parking with this absurdity just waiting to be ripped off by the nearest opportunist.

Even as a car lover, I must draw the line some where. This definitely crosses the line. Ugly and expensive. If you want Ugly and expensive, and have money to burn, why not just buy a Maybach

ewilfong- It disappears into the hood when the car is parked, just like the rest of the Phantoms.

I guess if people spend ridiculous amounts of money on jewelry for themselves, why not for their car?

It won't be Donald Trump because he has some sort of agreement with GM.

Note all the cars placed in his show and that he was at the NY Show with Bob Lutz when the DTS made its debut.

I bet some rapper will get one. Soulja Boy is more likely than Trump to get it.

I think it looks tacky.

For those concerned with theft, I bet it's one of those that disappears when you remove the key, and folds in to the grille. Hopefully protected somehow!

If it is really worth $200K, someone will find a way of getting it out.

It really just shows the owner is a moron with too much money.
