Chrysler refueling America

In the latest incentive to move vehicles off dealer lots, Chrysler has introduced their "Let's Refuel America" plan, in which Chrysler will pay for part of your fuels for the next three years.

They will lock in a price of $2.99 for that time span. That's what you the customer will pay. Anything over that Chrysler picks up the tab. For owners of diesel-powered Dodge Rams, it could mean a savings of $3000 or so over that time span.

Suzuki too
It looks like Suzuki is jumping on the free fuel bandwagon too, at least for three months. No word yet from the other automakers.

Even if this boosts short-term sales, the residuals on those will crash in 3 years when owners realize they will have to start paying $4 ($5, $6?) per gallon from that point onward.

How about building more fuel efficient vehicles, vs. subsidizing inefficient ones which will get the most credit?

I'd rather just have them take $6K off the cover price.

Haven't they done this in the past? I remember them giving away gas cards a long time ago.

I think it's a good marketing move. Sad that we'll jump all over a gas price lock-in at $3 though. I'm glad I was 16 in 2002. I don't know how I'd be keeping gas in the car at today's prices at my teenage wages.
