2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: Citroen and Peugeot

I'll admit it, I have odd taste in cars. I've even been accused of not liking cars at all because I'd rather spend the day in a Lexus rather than a WRX STI.
I really love auto shows like Frankfurt because there's so much stuff that we never get to see or drive in the U.S. Peugeot's 407 Coupe is a car I'd love to take home. This one has a 2.8-liter diesel engine that makes about 204 hp. It's front-wheel drive which I'm not thrilled about in a sporty coupe but a six-speed automatic is standard. A gas-burning V6 is available, it makes 211 hp.

Really, this one is the deal breaker for me. It looks different inside and out but still appears to offer an acceptable level of luxury. The Citroen C6 competes (in Europe) with the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. An available gas-burning V6 makes 211 hp and of course there's diesel version. With options like head-up display, premium stereo, leather and electric front and rear seats, the price is more than 57,000 Euros -- that's nearly $80,000 U.S., Now I know why they don't sell them in the States -- still nice to look at though. -- Brian Moody, Road Test Editor

The 407 looks like the old Dodge Intrepid. Weird. Maybe it's the flattened, cab-forward proportions. Meh.
The C6 is an oddball but I bet the shape is very practical for cargo versatility.

No please. Continue. I enjoy seeing cars we can't get over here. Maybe someday I'll get stationed in Germany.

Yeah, but does a 5-series cost less than a C6 over there?

Careful with the sarcasm, estreka! j/k Although I'm also always saddened by how we often don't get a lot of cool JDM and EDM stuff here. :(
Brian, I don't think you'd rather spend a track day in a Lexus than a STI! :o)
OT: The latest issue of Consumer Reports has a portable navigation system round-up in it. If you can get your hands on one, you might want to check it out. If you can't, just let me know as I have one at home.

I'm always amazed that the French can offer stylish, competent, and (apparently) well-built cars.
The quality of the Peugeots and Citroens I've been in seemed to match or beat my 07 Civic.

suby -if i ever feel like losing my lunch, I'll search for a track day in an STi. Until then, I'm perfectly happy to enjoy a Lexus GS and the only track i want to see is track 3 on my new Jars of Clay CD.

LOL "Alrighty then!" The next scheduled track time (as in driving on the track) you have, I'd be more than willing to fill in for you.
I haven't listened to any of Jars' stuff in a while, but I did go to a concert they had at APU a couple of years ago. At least you can go wrong with your kids listening to their music, too! :o)

@crashtestdingo
The V6 diesel and V6 gassers are auto-only, if you take the four cylinder diesel in either car, you will get a 6-speed manual.

Whoops! I meant "can't go wrong" in my last sentence above.

Why aren't Peugeot and Citroen sold in the US???
I bought a new Peugeot 307 Hdi in Australia in 2006 for the equivalent of about 25600 US dollars (I'm including taxes in the purchase price and converting at a rate of 0.8). That turbo diesel gets 60 mpg and really goes!
