2008 Detroit Auto Show: Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Edition

The Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Edition sort of slipped under the radar of most reporters at Detroit, as there wasn't a big deal made of it. Either that or most probably figured it was just another specially-prepped show car.

It's basically a designer edition hardcore off-roader—an oxymoron if ever there was one! How it differs from your basic FJ, is as follows:

First off, it comes with a white roof and body with black trim pieces. Other features include specially-tuned Bilstein shock absorbers, BF Goodrich All-Terrain Tires with custom 16-inch TRD alloy wheels, Cyclone air cleaner, differential lock and A-TRAC, TRD exhaust system, rock rails, all-weather floor mats, front bumper-mounted auxiliary lights, and front and rear skid plates.

Only 3,200 units will be produced in 2008. Pricing will be announced closer to launch in early February.

Think of the money HUMMER could be making if they had a small FJ/Wrangler fighter.

There's nothing there that can't be had from the parts catalogue. Apart from the white paint.

Very true Desmo, but its probably cheaper to purchase it from the factory this way.

Looks awesome, but the FJ looks better in black.

Btw, I believe it's oxymoron, not oxymoran.

Not so hondacura. take from insideline:
"It's safe to say that the vehicle will cost more than a fully loaded FJ," said Toyota spokesman Curt McAllister.

yeah, now I definitely don't get it.

The "fully loaded FJ" doesn't come with the locker, rock sliders, exhaust ,extra sideplates, etc.

A fully loaded FJ wouldnt have the special TRD parts as the one pictured.

hardcore off-roader? The furthest off-road most of these FJ's will go is the parking lot at Starbucks.
Toyota said the target market for the FJ was weekend adventurer men in their 20's and 30's and in reality the typical buyer is women in their 30's and 40's.
It truly is off-road capable and I don't know what women find so likable about the FJ.

"hardcore off-roader? The furthest off-road most of these FJ's will go is the parking lot at Starbucks."

Mopar, that could be said for the majority of SUVs on the road.

Of course you could say the same of the majority of sports cars. SUV or sports car owner, most people are shallow posers who want to look like they have a life.

Why not? Go to 'build your own' on the Toyota site and option it out like that.
That's what fully loaded means.
