Nissan GT-R setting records

Here are a couple of newsworthy items pertaining to the new Nissan GT-R:

GT-R is the fastest production car ever to lap the Nurburgring circuit
In mid April a production Nissan GT-R achieved a lap time of 7 minutes, 29 seconds, making it the fastest production car ever to lap the Nurburgring circuit. Earlier, a GT-R posted a 7 minute, 38 second lap time, establishing it as one of the world's fastest production cars.

Previously, the Porsche GT-2 and the Porsche Carrera achieved 7 minute 32 second lap times at the Nurburgring. Nissan's GT-R is now officially some 3-seconds quicker around the Nurburgring than Porsche.

GT-R bags a win at Suzuka Circuit
In its first Super GT race at Japan's Suzuka Circuit, in March, 2008, the GT-R finished first and second.

What I'm wondering is if this lap time was with the rumored V-Spec model or the "cookie cutter" GT-R. Never mind. Autoblog says the V-Spec has already been unofficially clocked in the 7:25 range. I wonder if Louis will chime in mentioning the Lexus LF-A. LOL

I don't think it was up when I posted, and I'm just now getting around to doing follow ups.

Yikes, the GT-R is trashing the competition. No wonder J Leno is getting one!

The Nürburgring Nordschleife definitely should've been included in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

i just want to know what the "naysayers" will do it this.
7,38 was already a FAKE time lap,but 7,29?

Well Suby, thanks for the introduction...

"Unofficially" the LF-A has achieved 7:24 at the 'Ring. Let's not forget that this car is still in development and last we heard, it is still short of the targeted 230 mph top speed set by Lexus.

Losses?

They are after a track record in Germany, Porsche's turf.

There is one winner.

Everyone else is the loser.

Hey you dudes doing free marketing for nissan
Do the simple math, 1 lap is about 13 miles. time of 7:29 is just about 105 MPH !

Wow, wow, wow, cost ranging from 70 to 100 K, be a nice Drifting car, but crap for us real men want real speed.

Guess what the repair bills will be for that AWD when as their Datsun history shows, new today, junker tomorrow.

^uh oh! Given that your name is "ZR1" I would assume that you dont like the GT-R?

Let me get this straight. The 3300lb 638hp Corvette ZR1 will probably post similar times to a cheaper 480hp 3900lb AWD TT V6 Nissan GT-R?

The ZR-1 is the Corvettes top model while the current GT-R will be accompanied by a Spec-V GT-R in the near future thats lighter and more powerful than the current GT-R which is being compared to the ZR1. If the GT-R is already this fast the V-Spec will be rediculous. This is gettin' good!

Ok, I think the GTR is ugly blah blah blah and for the same money I'd pick a much slower, but gorgeous in my eyes, Porsche Carrera (man, even that name is gorgeous!). But, where the GT-R is totally cool is that it is not just rocking the boat of the performance car world, but tipping it over.
From a performance standpoint it is forcing the other mfgs to raise their game significantly unless they don't mind getting their heinies handed to them by a car that is much much cheaper.

hondacura4 - May 3, 2008 10:11 am (#15 Total: 17)

Desmo, Id probably go for a Carerra S. I like the GT-R and respect its performance but for some reason I just dont care for all the computer doodads and doodahs.

I havent driven the car but I cant see how it would offer a "pure" driving experience. Maybe Nissan integrated and executed the electronics well enough to make it seem natural?

desmolicious - May 4, 2008 10:33 am (#16 Total: 17)

Yup HA4, Dan Neill (pulitzer prize winning automotive journalist) described the GTR as such:
"Because, for all its pants-ripping performance, the GT-R is surprisingly -- amazingly -- not all that exciting to drive"
