CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Saturday, May 10, 2008

Do you know your vehicle's footprint? Did you even know your vehicle has a footprint? Your government knows. And Auto Prophet explains it all. Even provides a convenient graph to illustrate. Hint: It has nothing to do with your tires' contact patch.

Now here's a creative approach to combining the beauty of art and the audacity of autos - The Garage Blog's artist Paul Chenard is offering some genuinely impressive pieces, including a gorgeous interpretation of a Maserati V-12 in Italian racing red. You wouldn't have that in any other color .... would you?

Is there any hope for Pontiac? Peter DeLorenzo is the AUTOEXTREMIST and he is utterly skeptical. Even with the superb G8.

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Sunday, May 4, 2008

Now that Nissan's awesome GT-R has set a new record for fastest 'Ring lap ever by a production vehicle, how long before we see a wave of pro racers coincidentally at the fabled German public circuit driving perfectly prepped factory samples?

So Odd It's Cool Car of the Month

Do you know  the name of this car? If you do, you're the winner. Well, you don't actually win anything. However, you can tell  your buddies you know more about cars than them. Wait, you already do that - just for fun then.

Check back next week for the answer and some stats on this automotive oddity.

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Saturday, April 26, 2008

They're popping champagne corks in Dearborn this week for the first time in a long while, thanks to news the Blue Oval bunch turned a $100 million profit for the first quarter of 08. Maybe the fly-boy Mulally knows what he is doing, after all.

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Saturday, April 5,2008

If you live in Chattanooga, Lubbock, Dallas, Springfield (Missouri), Union City (California) or Nashville, you may have noticed the yellow lights in some intersection seem a wee bit shorter. The National Motorist Association blog reports its not your imagination.

Want to get something well and truly exciting between your legs? Eric Peters suggests a ride on the latest Boss Hog, with its 425 horsepower LS2 hooked to a two-speed tranny. First gear is fast, second gear is very fast.

Ever heard of congestion charges? Trust me, it's coming soon to a traffic jam near you. Jalopnik reports the latest on New York City's adoption of an $8 fee for entering mid and lower Manhattan.

Bill Visnic at Edmunds Auto Observer reporters GM engineers now claim to have developed battery packs capable of 40-mile battery only-range for the Chevy Volt. Big question now is which of the five competing battery suppliers will get the big charge of business when the Volt goes into production.

Spring just arrived, but it's already getting hot in the car insurance business. Check this out from Auto Muse.

Want to be an auto blogger? Think you know something about the industry? 4 Drivers Only is looking for a blog driver.

Stuff like this worries me about Dearborn's future: Over at Blue Oval News, Robert Musial has a lengthy explanation of Ford's new "Drive One" advertising campaign designed "to encourage employees, retirees, dealers and others to be enthusiastic advocates for the company, the brand and its products." Isn't something profoundly wrong when you have to advertise to your own people to encourage them to be enthusiastic about your products?

The Auto Prophet has a great video you should watch now so that next winter the first time you are tempted to drive away without cleaning your frost-covered windshield, you will think twice.  Notice the perfect symmetry of the indention made by the pole in the Bronco's front end.

Only Grant Repsher at Grant's Auto Rants could possibly tie together in one post the horrors of Southwest Airlines' new boarding procedure and the service adviser who moved a simple battery replacement for the Repsher family wagon to a $984 repair bill.

Finally, can Danica Patrick, Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal save Indy car racing? I think they can and I explain why at Behind the Wheel. Billie France and Bernie Eccelstone better watch out!

See ya next week.

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Saturday, March 22, 2008

Remember those wonderful times in your childhood when the family piled into the big sedan or station wagon and headed to Disneyland or Grandmas or the beach? Judging by the prevalence of urban scooting squares and EVs at this week's New York Auto Show, the day is not far off when such road trips will be just memories.

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Saturday, March 15, 2007

You know it's a strange week when the boss sends everybody in the company an email ordering them to use two weeks of their vacation time in July. It's even stranger when he says the company wide siesta is for "efficiency." This is the "New Chrysler."

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around the Auto Blog Block for Saturday, March 1, 2008

Now that the Indy Racing League and Champ Cars have reunited (finally!), open-wheel racing should get a major shot-in-the-arm, right? Yes, but an even bigger boost will come when Danica Patrick wins her first race.

CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around The Auto Blog Block for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008

For years, critics have blasted GM for its culture of politically correct corporate conformity. Then along comes Maximum Bob Lutz to speak his mind on the Global Warming fraud and the same critics go ape.
