Plug-In Locator Aims to Provide Broad Look at What's In the PHEV Pipeline

plug-in-vehicle-tracker-header.gif A very few are here now, most are at least a few years away and many are further distant than that, but plug-in cars, trucks and 'cycles are coming and the advocacy group Plug In America has done an admirable job of cataloging the field.

In its new Website dedicated to keeping track of plug-ins - hybrid and pure EV - the group presently is listing 47 cars and trucks, 11 two- and three-wheelers and 9 commercial trucks and buses.

Some are long shots - an electric Rolls-Royce Phantom is on the list because RR executives said back in October that they were thinking of adapting the same technology in the Mini E for use in Roller (Rolls-Royce and Mini both are owned by BMW).

Others probably shouldn't be there - the NICE Micro-Vett, a collaboration of Italy's Fiat and U.K. low-speed electric vehicle maker NICE Car Co. once was discussed out loud but since has been removed from both companies' websites

And some, like the Tesla Roadster and the promised Chevrolet Volt and Toyota Prius plug-ins, are either here or pretty definitely on the way.

Like Plug In America, we neither recommend not endorse any of the models, but we do commend the list you as are a decent effort to synthesize what's known or suspected about automaker plans for introducing various plug-ins in the near future.

Plug In America says it intends to produce monthly updates to keep is fresh and accurate as possible in this ever-changing automotive/economic climate.
