Putnam Leasing, a company that specializes in providing exotic cars to exotic customers (at exotic prices) has picked their "Top Exotic Lease for 2006." The winner? Bugatti's 1001 horsepower 2006 Veyron, a car Putnam Leasing can put you in for a paltry $23,595 -- a month. Of course that price doesn't include taxes, and I'm thinking insurance on a $1.3 million dollar car is probably higher than an Accord or Explorer, even when you're just leasing it. But hey, if that millionaire Greg Olsen felt it was worth $20 million to hitch a ride on the Russian space program, there's got to be someone out there willing to shell out $300,000 a year to drive a vehicle capable of 255 mph...
But that's just me.

Love your column, Karl, but if you think having to save up for seven whole months to buy a Ford GT makes you seem like a regular Joe...

Karl, where, other than a race track or auto test track or Bonnevile salt flats, are you going to drive that vehicle 255 MPH?
The rental would make more sense if it included track time at a large speedway or test track.

Uh, I just finished a 2000 mile trip, nearly all of it being on the I-5. I hope you like salom style driving because that is exactly what you will have to do to dodge/weave around the long convoys of trucks to get any speed out of a Bugatti on that road. The fastest I saw any car going on that road (A BMW) was around 95 mph.
Of course, if you want __real__ fun, wait until a holiday, cruise the I-5 from LA through Sacramento, and enjoy the drag racing between the trucks, a California innovation (driver rudeness on the I-5 appears directly related to distance from any major Calif. City).
