It certainly helps that GMAC will be lending to people with less than a 700 again. Anyone who was even thinking about buying a car should get in the market.

Good deals but end of Jan will probably be even better - it's a slower car sales month anyway.

You can get some great lease deals (I know, Karl you don't like leases, but some people do) as well. Honda, Toyota and Nissan are still leasing I believe. The good deals are with the fuel-efficient cars since they have very good residuals.

For the majority of people out there whose jobs are not at risk, it's a great time.
Monthly expenses are way down.
Gasoline is 1/2 the price it was last summer, my heating costs (natural gas ) dropped by a third, the interest rate on my mortgage is down by 1.75%, seems like everything is on sale at the store, they removed the fuel surcharges the ferries were charging, we get an income tax cut Jan 1st and I'll bet there's more if I think about it for a while.
People should go out and take advantage of the great deals on new cars and stop listening to the doom and gloom the media is so fond of hyping.
(Unfortunatly I'm one those who did lose their job so I won't be buying yet but I'll keep encouaging others)

M3s are going for 600-700 a month on lease. That's a pretty outstanding deal. I've seen some M3s discounted 6-7k off sticker. On a lease that's a stupid good deal with a money factor of 0.00025 (0.6%).

ya - for some it is a great time to buy, but since I am trying to run a my own business, it has been tight and going to get tighter still the next couple of months so I wouldn't chance buying a new vehicle right now. Especially since I don't need one with 3 perfectly running vehicles (knock on wood).
I wish I could afford to buy, but as I look back at the past, there is always a good time to buy and so even if these great deals go away, there'll be something else in the future when I am able to buy.
