Want to tame the wilderness in luxurious comfort? The choices are few, but the 2010 Lexus LX 570 definitely has the goods to deliver. The shot above (by Photo Editor Kurt Niebuhr), is a good indication of the big Lexus' off-road prowess. That's a difficult climb in hiking boots, but the LX reached the summit then back down the other side (which was just as steep) just as easily as it pulls into my driveway.
Along with the mechanical and electronic driver aids, our Lexus LX 570 also featured a forward-looking and side camera that takes a lot of the guesswork out of navigating through hostile terrain. On the same screen, you can see what is directly in front of the bumper, which is helpful when coming over a rise (you can only see sky in the windshield when it's really steep). The side-view camera is mounted on the underside of the passenger mirror and provides a glimpse of how close you are to a boulder or precipice.
Threading your way through such situations is still quite nerve-wracking, but the LX 570 manages to instill a hefty amount of confidence. It's nice to see that the spirit of the Land Cruiser is alive and well.

Oh c'mon, do you REALLY expect any LX570 owner to actually take one of those off road?

@yankee, little chance it will see anything more challenging than gravel.

Look at the trail. It's well tracked but not damaged. Countless vehicles have driven right up it. If you are not used to off roading it's easy to be impressed by relatively easy trails.
Doesn't make it any less fun though :)
I haven't seen any of the newest LX570s off road but I have seen quite a few Lexus TLCs over the years. Even a few modified ones.
Just as sports car owners should attend some track days, 4x4 owners should get out and explore some trails. Best thing about the trails is they are free and you can go anytime you like.

@firstwagon
the best thing about America is it's free and you can go anytime you like!
More people should enjoy the great American outback more.
