Test Car Notes: 2010 Infiniti G37x Coupe Watches the Weather

You can get real-time weather reports in several cars. It's available in the Cadillac CTS, for example, and Ford offers it through Sirius Travel Link. But no one provides weather info as detailed as Infiniti.

Last week was busy weather-wise, with Hurricane Earl bearing down on the east coast. I kept tabs on Earl and other events from the dash of a 2010 Infiniti G37x Coupe. But unlike other vehicles that provide weather reports, in the G37x it was almost like having an on-board meteorologist.

Not only does the G37x give current weather and forecast for the immediate area, but it will also display maps showing weather warnings and watches, temperatures and road conditions. And you can call it up via your vicinity, for your destination, on a national map or check individual cities. The national Warnings Map above shows the effects of Hurricane Earl from last Thursday, as well as other potential hazards.

While you can get some of this info from the radio, you have to find a station and hope it gives you the details you want. And you can get it on your smartphone, hopefully when you're not driving. But if you're a fanatical weather watcher like me, you can just dial it up on your dash in the Infiniti G37x

Plus, it's a good diversion when you can't find anything to listen to on the stereo.
