Weekly Top Three: Cool Car Colors

NSX.jpg

A number of automakers have recently come out with specialized or retro paint colors. And so, inspired by the Synergy Green Chevrolet Camaro and the Plum Crazy and Furious Fuchsia Dodge Challengers, here's a list of some car colors I've really liked over the years. I like the cars underneath the paint, too. Feel free to agree or disagree or - better yet -- post your own favorite car colors in the comments.

Samba Green Del Sol.jpg

Samba Green Honda Civic del Sol
Samba Green was available for 1993-1994 on Si models. This bright green is a polarizing color: Most people I know tend to dislike it. But I think it perfectly embodies the spirit of the del Sol -- a quirky and fun car that I really liked, but wasn't for everyone.

Laguna Seca Blue M3.jpg

Laguna Seca Blue BMW M3
Laguna Seca Blue was the launch color of the 2001 BMW M3 and continued through the 2004 model year. The color can best be described as somewhere between turquoise and baby blue. According to this M3 forum, the first '01 models to hit dealers were all this color, but interest faded over the years. Since then, however, the color has developed a cult following. Each year BMW gives a small number of M3s a custom paint job. A couple of years ago, a BMW dealership in Long Beach, California, ordered a 2009 M3 in this color. The cost for the custom paint? $5,000.

Supersonic Blue Integra.jpg

Super Sonic Blue Pearl Acura Integra
If you've even seen Super Sonic Blue in person, you'll see that it's actually purple, and it reminds me of the deep shade you'll see on the Lakers' away jerseys. It was exclusive to Integra GS-R models and was only made from 1998-1999. On many forums you'll find people who claim that that supersonic blue pearl was one of the rarest colors the Integra was made in.

I'm a big fan of Audi's Nogaro and Sprint Blue.

I think VW's laser blue is a similar, but a little better than the BMW blue.

Absolute favorite though is Ferrari's Pozzi Blue with a dark brown interior.

I've always loved Blazing Yellow Mica, available on the 2002 Miata Special Edition and 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege. It never looked great in photos, but the very fine gold mica with the yellow paint is brilliant in the sunlight.

My other favorite is not a paint color at all... the bare stainless steel finish on the DeLorean DMC-12.

I couldn't in good conscience drive a car that reminded me of the Lakers. I'd push it off a cliff.

I loved my Solar Yellow SRT-4, but the a color that always makes me look at it and covet it is Sonic Blue on Mustangs:

I also adore the Kona Blue color on the 2010-11 Mustangs.

Montego Blue '92-'94 RX-7. This beautiful color could look anywhere from green to black depending on lighting.

Love that green! Reminds me of the Cantberry Green
93 Acura Legend. (My favorite ex car , & why did
Acura drop the Legend name again? )

I recently sold a Pelican Blue Audi A4. I miss the color more than the car; it was a beautiful color. Wish more cars came in bright colors these days.

Unfortunately we didn't get this one in the states, but overseas (and I believe Canada) they get the Honda S2000 in Imola Orange (same as the NSX in the middle, at the top of the page)
