The Ford Shelby GT Mustang -- Niche Player
I am at the Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan this morning. The primary reason I'm here is to cover (and be a part of) the Ford GT Rally. This rally was set up by the Ford GT owners, but Ford has stepped up to totally support the event with plant tours, interviews with Ford GT team members and a photo shoot of all the owners' cars in front of Ford World Headquarters (we just finished the shoot, and there were over 70 GTs in attendance).
Unfortunately I didn't drive my GT out from L.A. (too much time and too many miles), but Ford was kind enough to loan me a GT500 as my personal ride during the Rally (a fully acceptable GT substitute, if you ask me). Ford also let us take the first media drives in the new Ford Shelby GT this morning. This is basically the GT-H car, but without the black-and-gold paint (or the "-H" on the side of the car). Because it's not a rental car, you can get the Shelby GT with a manual transmission, and in either black or white colors (both with silver stripes). With 325 naturally-aspirated horsepower you can already figure this car is quick! It also looks good, though I know some people will prefer the black/gold color of the GT-H (which, officially, isn't available for retail sale). I'll have a first drive road test up on Monday.
