After reading the blog comments about the 2008 Smart Fortwo's track testing I realized that if you say anything good about our Smart you better run for cover.
So, just to establish my masculinity right up front I'll weigh in first with a typical jab of the Smart: "The acceleration is a joke!" Now, with that out of the way, let me point out something that's pretty convenient about the Smart.
You never have to take it to the car wash.
After driving it out of our dungeon -- er, parking garage -- I woke up Saturday morning and found the nose covered in weird white stuff, like it had been driven through a blizzard of moths. I knew the car wash would be packed so I decided to give it a hobo bath... I got some detailing spray and a clean cloth. The nose cleaned up with a few swipes. Encouraged, I got some glass cleaner and did all the windows. Then, for fun, I cleaned the rest of the car. Five minutes later, I was tooling around in a clean car.
Clean, waterless, free. That's a good thing.

Well, CR had 'less to love' in their short comments on the smart this month - they disliked it for all the common reasons (overall room, transmission, etc.), recommended people buy a Fit instead.
edit - here's what they said: "A car like this should be fun and zippy. Sadly, the Smart is neither. The ride is harsh, and broken urban pavement, this car's natural habitat, pummels occupants mercilessly. The transmission shifts strangely, with pauses and heaves between gears. Handling is not so responsive, and it takes a lot of wheel winding to coax the Smart through corners. The slow, noisy engine makes it necessary to plan ahead when merging into traffic, although once on the highway it can keep up the pace."

But other than that they really liked it, right?
"found the nose covered in weird white stuff"
It's foaming at the mouth. I knew this was a rabid Mercedes.
I saw a smart doing 85mph the other day (possibly even a little faster). I didn't know they could go that fast! What's the top speed the Edmunds team has gone?
It depends on the health insurance maximum expenditure limit of the driver. With a good health and life insurance I am sure I could go even up to 90mph in that thing.
by this genius logic, a scooter would be the best vehicle since "washing" it would require 5 seconds.
this is really scraping rock bottom when the best thing you can say about a car is that it is quick to wash...
is it easy to air up the tires? 'cause if it is, you know that will make all the difference in the world!...
oh yeah, the scooter has just about the same capacity as the Smart while being easier to park, gets better mpg's, is smoother, faster

Ever done 85 mph on a scooter? LOL
Driven a scooter in the snow? rain? with a passenger? without a bag on your head?

Are you talking about the scooter... or the Smartcar??? ;-P
I would argue both are equally inadequate with possibly the higher dork factor going to the SMART.
Some scooters will hit 85mph while getting far better mpg's than a Smart...
