2007 Chevrolet Silverado LT: Doublethink

I love trucks, so a long weekend in a truck is a little slice of heaven for me. A slice of heaven if I was out on the road and not stuck in West Los Angeles that is. Living on the West Side without a parking spot can be a little tricky when trying to shoe horn in such a long truck into a small spot.

I know this isn't exactly a new statement for me, but when I drove around on Saturday for nearly 50 minutes looking for a place to park near near my apartment I just about lost it. From then on, I had to doublethink the idea of going someplace that required me to drive in fear of not finding a spot when I get back home.

Other than the issues of space, I dig this truck. It speaks to my Macho-Americana. It's comfortable, attractive and fun to drive. I think if I had a boat to tow, needed something to haul or was landscaping my backyard I'd love to own one.

But I've got none of those needs. Seeing as I'm an urban kid living in a small apartment that doesn't have a parking spot, it's like biting off more than I can chew. And then choking on it.

Wow, the Silverado, a full size pickup, isn't a good urban car? Whodathunk huh? Its a good thing we have these long term blogs to tell us all sorts of non-exceedingly obvious judgments like this. Without this entry, who knows how many densely populated urban loft dwellers would have unwisely traded in their subcompacts and hatchbacks for a full size truck. I think in the next blog you should tell farmers that the new Civic GX you just added to your fleet wouldn't be a good choice for hauling their horse trailer.

How was the Baja functional? Even the old Dodge Rampage had a bigger bed.

As for the Chevy, does Edmunds have any staff members who don't live in a condo downtown? I'm glad they like it but let someone who would actually but a truck test it.

(If you don't have anyone, I have a driveway big enough for 6 cars, an old travel trailer to tow with it and a big back yard full of shrubs that need trimming and hauling away. I'd be happy to test it for a few months. :))

Was it really? I thought the Baja looked fine. A little dull, if anything.

....... not to mention it was brutally, viciously ugly (the Baja.) Functional sure. But that thing seared my eyeballs like few cars have.

Maybe Chevy should develop a telescoping bed...Collapse it when you don't need it and fit into tight parking spots...Extend it when you do need it.

Subaru kinda had the idea with the Baja, but since it didn't have a nifty foldable rear bulkhead, a la Avalanche, it's capabilities came up way short.
