2006 Honda Civic Si: Trunk storage

Onions, everywhere! I recently used Inside Line's Civic Si for a bit of grocery shopping and noticed that the trunk of our car doesn't have any method for securing plastic grocery bags full of food. After returning home, much of the bags' contents had spilled out and were now rolling about in the trunk.

Honda does offer a cargo net as an accessory for the Civic coupe but our car doesn't have it... Plus, I've never found nets to be all that useful for grocery bags. Were I to own this car and be frequently using it for grocery shopping, I think I'd be looking into a way to better secure the bags.

We have the cargo net in our 04 Accord EX-L and it does a great job of securing our grocery bags. You might also want to consider taking a small box with you when you are going to the grocery store. You can throw the bags in the box and not worry. That also makes it easier to unload the car.

Now are you sure it was the lack of fasteners and not say a little agressive driving and enjoying of the si's sportyness? Ha ha, I say just tie the tops and you should be set.

As an aside, were you the designer, what would you change or add to make groceries easier to transport?

Spargo, answer: Grocery bag hooks, molded into the trunk liner below the trunk lid. My 2000 Taurus has them and they work great. Just loop the handles of the grocery bags in the hooks. They only work for plastic bags with handles, not paper.

I also see Honda is sticking with the goose neck trunk lid hinges. Maybe the air springs with scissor linkage is to expensive for "entry level" cars, even Hondas?

Spargo: Agressive driving in a Si? Perish the thought! A lot of cars we test do have molded hooks or other securing hardware for plastic grocery bags, however. That the Civic has nothing in its stock form is somewhat annoying.

sadly, i don't think Honda had "practical" things like grocery hooks in mind when they built the Si. ;P I'm sure it's not going to add any kind of weight to have them in there... Oh well... I think that's why i had an old milk crate in the trunk of my old Si... don't ask where i got the old milk crate... lol

I normally tie the bags closed, flip up the spare tire flap and set my groceries in there. Works pretty good for me.
