Not long ago I was taking a walk on the beach. There was a lone surfer waiting to catch a wave. Suddenly, a flock of dolphins -- actually, I think the correct term is a pod of dolphins -- started to play with him. These delightful creatures were swimming all around him and jumping out of the water. It was an amazing sight and the surfer was enjoying the interplay.
But, after a while, the dolphins started getting unintentionally rough. They didn't mean it. They're dolphins. They just wanted to have fun. Although they are wildly intelligent, they don't understand that humans are breakable.
Finally, the kid started to get freaked out and made his way to shore. He had an incredible experience but knew if he stayed out there any longer, he was going to get the wind knocked out of him.
That's how I feel sometimes when I drive the R8. It's a beautiful machine in a very accessible way. It is not at all aloof. People give you the thumbs-up just for beautifying their street. They want to play and drive next to you. They want to jump in front of you and take your picture with their camera phones. But after a while they start to sway too close and you really want them to pay attention to the road.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but why is everyone so smitten with the looks of this car? It doesn't offend me, but the styling strikes me as much more gimmicky than pretty. I seem to be in the minority here though. Anyone else have a dissenting opinion?
I like the analogy: how true! Still, I'd rather be surrounded by dolphins instead of humans any day. At least dolphins aren't mean about it.

Great post! I like the mural too. I think you will leave the wall the way it is for while as the R8 is an instant classic, with good looks and awesome performance...I am an Audi guy however.
The R8 appears to be rather angry at that phone.

I totaly agree. I like the r8 and i think it looks nice,(especialy in person) but not supercar nice. More like $50K Lexus nice. Not Maserati GranTurismo nice. Yes, i know it more expensive, but still.
I also agree, uncanny...that mural makes it look bizarre...ok in the flesh, but not striking.
I like the R8 except for that 2-tone band down the rear quarter. It's important to implement such design characteristics when you've got way too much surface area, but the R8 looks fine on it's own. Beyond that it's a very sexy car.
Would somebody fix that Cisco 7912 IP Phone? The handset cord is reversed. The long end threads through the channel in the back, and the short end connects to the handset. Also, please send me an R8 when you get around to it.
The mural is so big and the elevator lobby so narrow that you can't get a straight-on shot of it. When you are standing in the other doorway looking at the mural, the rear seems abnormally large, instead of the front, as in this shot.
