2008 Ford Focus: Rock All Night Long

I like the variable lights. They are pretty. It's like driving around in a rock show.

I don't care if you think this is the dumbest blog entry ever, it's the truth.

This is the dumbest blog entry evAr!!!

Just kidding, you are entitle to your own opinion :)

"I don't care if you think this is the dumbest blog entry ever, it's the truth." :p

Is that the not so Fast and kind of Furious 4 edition Focus?

Whoooo.... Color coordinated ambient lighting! I'm gonna run out and buy me a Focus! Oh wait. Some pocket rocket wanna-be must have been on the Focus design team and ran out to Autozone as the car was coming down the line.

I kinda think the changeable lighting is dumb. Just another gimmick in my book. The blue is nice however - matches the exterior of the car and it does give a nice hue to the interior of the car.

I'll risk the wrath of Al by saying I agree wholeheartedly with you. If little snippets of design like this were to be scoffed at, as the previous commenters seem to believe, then why do we collectively spend so much time discussing and debating the relative merits of chrome finishes, dash materials and button layouts.

Heck, electroluminescent gauges are the hottest thing these days...why aren't those being mocked as relentlessly as this feature is?

Oh yes, because everyone likes when their car is pretty. Admit it, boys.

This strikes me as "cute." Personally, I don't want my car to be "cute." Maybe my nieces who still play with dolls will find this fascinating, but perhaps Ford could put a little more effort into making the trim fit together...

i like the look, but this would be a heck of a lot cooler on a car that didn't have plastic interior pieces falling off all the time.

*i had a 2001 focus for 6 years and the interior (and entire car) held up really well...what happened?!

I like the ambient lighting in my MC. It can match the BMW orange gauges, it provides enough illumination to see inside the cabin without requiring the map light, and it impresses people. Its a small touch that didn't take much from the design end, but looks great when implemented. I wish it had the cup holder lights like the Focus.

Blankfocus wins. Zing! :)

I wouldn't pay extra for it - But I'd rock it if it came on my car...

It's still a Ford Focus...

'Nuff said.

I don't get the purpose of the variable color cupholders - the rest of the dash/instrumentation retains its original color. If they could vary the color of all lights that would be a bit more impressive.

While we're adding to the wish list, how about something simple like a diesel Focus? Or one of the turbo models from Europe?

Sad thing is I think Ford US would tackle the variable color dash lights first.

That reminds me of an old Road & Track article on the press intro of the 1982(I think) Ford/Lincoln-Mercury model range. The writer asked one of the Ford engineers why the pedals of the Escort/Lynx weren't configured so as to make heel-and-toe shifting possible. "What's 'heel-and-toe'?" asked the confused engineer. Before the R&T writer could explain, the engineer was summoned to assist some of his fellow engineers in solving a much more pressing issue; it seems that one of the other automotive journalists had discovered that the spring-loaded hood ornament on the Lincoln Town Car would not pop back up when pushed down.
The more things change...
