2007 Cadillac SRX: More Keyless Entry Hijinks

Cadillac SRX Door Handle

The impish key fob on our 2007 Cadillac SRX continues to taunt and tease us with its playful games. We'd reported that it behaved unpredictably during a recent road trip to Wyoming. That pattern continued last night. The fob worked fine when it came to locking the car after exit, but when entering, I was forced to use the key.

Same thing for this morning. Keep being that naughty, key fob, and I'll have to send you to your room.

We'll have the issue investigated during the SRX's upcoming trip to the dealer.

I checked the manual - no such "feature" exists that I can find. But the manual has a few glaring errors and circular references in it too.

I had the same problem with a CTS that I rented. When I returned it, the Enterprise dealer explained that there is a security feature that can be enabled that only allows the remote to lock the car. Might want to check the manual for that.

Im suprised a vehicle of this caliber still has a fob as most luxury and non luxury makers have the buttons integrated into the key head or offer keyless ignition systems.

It really isn't major resoldering, just a tiny dab where the little prongs on the battery clip go into the circuit board. When the first one of mine broke it wasn't under warranty. I would have just lived with it ($70 for a new fob + labor) but when I figured out what it was I just went ahead and did it myself, worse that could happen would be that I break the already broken key fob. Sure it shouldn't be happening on that new of a car, but that's what happens when you outsource to China.

That's an cheap looking fob for a $40k SUV. At that price, it should be intigrated with the key.

Do resolding work for a new car? Whaa??

I'm pretty handy with an iron, but there is NO WAY I'm messing with reworking a funky anything for a new car. Let them get on the QC people wherever these were sourced from (China, anyone?) and make it their problem.

Pop the key fob apart and see if the clip that holds the battery came unsecured. It seems GM's supplier is using a cheap and thin solder to hold the battery clip on. My current vehicle has the same style fobs as your SRX and I've had to re-solder the battery clip on both of them atleast once (two solder points on each clip) because they came loose. With the thicker (and messier) solder I haven't had any more problems. Yours is still under warranty though so that'd probably be the easiest route.
