2007 Chevrolet Silverado LT: Fresh Powder

My friends and I took our Silverado to Mammoth this past weekend for three days of skiing and snowboarding in fresh powder.  The problem with fresh snow is that it doesn't just fall on the trails, so needless to say the roads weren't in the best condition.  Even with a total of 36 inches of snow fall while we were there the Silverado remained as sure footed as ever.  We never once had to stand outside in the cold and wrestle with chains or dig our way out of a ditch, all we had to do was put it in 4wd and go.

However, after driving through the pass into Mammoth in 4wd there was the faint smell of burning coming from the Silverado.  The next three days were spent driving around town in 4wd and then through the same pass on the return trip in 4wd.  The smell was never duplicated and the Silverado ran without any problems for the rest of the trip.

Nice truck. I haven't had mine buried that bad yet, but I am glad that the capability is there when I need it.

I'm still curious about the trans issue that left this truck at death's door just a few weeks ago. It seemed like everyone on the staff lost confidence in the vehicle, then starting beating it off-road and taking it to inhospitable locations with tons of snow. What ever happened with the tranny? Was it replaced or was it actually repaired by a competent technician/dealer?

I wouldn't doubt that there probably was a lot of fluid splashed around from the trans repairs or it was the brakes. My experience with the GMT900's is that the brakes can get smelly if they get hot from the sability control.

Good to hear nobody ended up in the ditch though.. In Michigan thats always something thats on every drivers mind.

Maybe they burned off the excess tranny fluid from a factory or dealer overfill.

About a week ago, every parked car on the street looked like that, thankfully the snow is finally melting. :)

Chevy. This is our truck.
The burning must have been complimentary All-American burgers, since this is such an American truck.

Burning smell could have been something simple like dirty/slushy snow packed against the underside of the car. The heat from the motor/transmission/exhaust on this will cause some stinkyness.
