2008 Cadillac CTS: Bum Turn Signal

Cadillac CTS

I thought I noticed this before, but I wasn't sure because it wasn't happening all the time. But now, it seems that every time you use the right turn signal to change lanes, it doesn't work. Nothing happens. Not great when you are driving on the freeway.

If you push the right turn signal all the way until it clicks, like when you are making a right turn around a corner, it works fine. But when you just want to hold it for a few seconds: nothing. The left one works just fine.

jaymagic I think that is a good point, it would interesting to see what Hyundai products would be like if they were priced at the same level as Honda and Toyota.

On a side, you would be surprised how few problems real owners of these "snob" brands have with their cars. Even with all the technology rarely does anything go wrong, and when it does it is normally minor (like this) and can wait for the next service visit.

Every brand has haters, except Subaru. :)

Subaru owners are the harshest on their own cars, but love them anyway :)

P.s. My wife's Subaru has been named Elizabeth. She washed her last night. I haven't seen my wife wash a car in YEARS...

Actually, I don't think the CTS or current Caddies in general have that many flaws. Its just that when one occurs in the snob brands (and I would love to have many of them, so just a term of reference here), the comments posted always seem to treat a flaw as a one car issue. If it is a Hyundai (or other "value/cheap" brand), the put down/negative comments come fast and furious against the brand as opposed to just a flaw on that particular vehicle.

And, YES, until a 3-4 years ago, Hyundais deserved probably every shot taken. Given the price of a Hyundai versus a comparable vehicle, most Hyundai owners are probably willing to deal with a minor issue (which warranty will cover anyway). But, the term good value purchase, seems to imply that while the car is fundamentally ok, a much better quality car can be had for few dollars more. Those "few dollars" are generally at least $5,000+, when the actual out the door prices are compared.

Gee, I wonder how much more Hyundai could have put in the vehicle if it got $5,000+ more per vehicle (Azera, Veracruz, Endeavor, etc). But I doubt it would matter to many, as it is still a Hyundai. I guess too many on this site are too young to remember the early days of Datsun/Nissan and Toyota and their public perception. And yes, I do think the very expensive and more cutting edge technology on many of the snob brands does offer many problems to the owner, but the snob appeal apparently overcomes the need to keep taking it to the dealer.

ahightower- sounds to me like it's definitely concerned with the easy "three flash" lane change feature, where you lightly pull the stalk down (or up) to get an automatic three flashes.

"But if you want to move to the right, you have to be very positive about the question, "Are you sure you want to slow down? Please confirm.""

I can hear it now "Hi, this is OnStar, we've had a report that you are considering moving to the slow lane, is everything okay?"

"Cars are insanely complicated, and little things like this can pop up at any time"

For some reason I always think similar things when I'm flying somewhere and the plane bounces a bit.

jaymagic I would actually argue the exact opposite. I think Hyundai has gotten a free pass for years, only in the past year or so has the company built cars that were not adequate and ordinary at best and yet they have gotten rave reviews for years. Have a small problem on your Benz or Caddy, however, and everyone starts the whole Mercedes reliability sucks/GM is the worst brand in the world tirade.

Also, you are correct in that Mercedes, BMWs, and Cadillacs have many flaws, but Hyundais (and all other mainstream makes) have even more when you consider their lack of technology, but almost equal number of quality issues.

"This is probably just a quirk with this specific car, not a widespread CTS problem."

Precisely. If the lane change 3 blink isn't working for one side and is for the other, could just be a random bug with the switch. Nothing big. Tell a dealer, and it will be resolved--if it's actually not working--quickly.

Cars are insanely complicated, and little things like this can pop up at any time, with any brand--and do. The turn signal still works when fully engaged, so it's really even less of a real "problem"...but annoying and fixable.

There will be "dumping" on every brand, buddy. No brand is safe. There are GM haters, Ford haters, Toyota haters, Hyundai haters, and the like on here. Some of us just choose to make it more known than others.

Jaymagic... please do tell... what are the "many flaws" of the Caddy CTS?

Oh no, here it comes...

I find it hypocritical that no one seems to be questioning the brand quality of the CTS and Cadillac. If this was a Hyundai product, people would be all over it commenting on you get what you pay for, etc. The "brand snobs" can't wait to dump on a make like Hyundai, while the MB's, BMW's, and here Cadillac, get a free pass for their many flaws.

kratas, still driving the '02 Accord? I don't think this post is referring to the way some new cars will blink three times after you nudge and release the turn signal. I think it means that it doesn't turn on when holding it down.

Obviously this is a feature.
With 304 horsepowers, the CTS is designed to change into the left lane quickly.

But if you want to move to the right, you have to be very positive about the question, "Are you sure you want to slow down? Please confirm."

It is thoughtful features like this that makes GM the number 1 brand in the universe.

My current car doesn't have the fancy nudge-to-change-lanes feature so I'd stick with the old push-till-click method ;)

What a good looking car! Shame I won't have any indication its going to turn into my lane and run over my car.
