Hundreds of complaints are now being heard from owners about run-flat tires. They wear much faster, and can be twice as expensive to replace than conventional tires. In fact a class action lawsuit has been filled against Toyota, as many Sienna minivans are equipped with this type of tire; and Dunlop, the tire maker. More info here...

As more and more manufacturers are putting run-flats on vehicles it looks like consumer discontent is growing. Just look at what owners are saying about the high cost for 2006 BMW 3-Series run-flats.

why do the replacements need to be run-flats?
They use specific rims that won't work with conventional tires.
Hopefully the cost comes down as they become more common place. But bad experiences like this could delay that. Ironic, no?
