Mercury Mariner Hybrid 2006 Green Car of the Year

Mercury Mariner Hybrid 2006 was named Green Car of the Year by the Green Car Journal. That's all well and dandy, but why didn't the mechanically identical Ford Escape Hybrid also share the award?
