Kitsap County WA gets Subaru Legacy turbo as cop car

Speeders and aggressive drivers in Kitsap County Washington will have a new patrol vehicle to keep their eyes out for: an unmarked 2006 Subaru Legacy GT turbo sedan. Note police lights in windshield, grille & hood scoop!

'Bout time some domestic police force recognized that AWD and a turbo makes for an excellent police vehicle receipe. Subies of all sorts have been used worldwide as police vehicles, but are somewhat of a rarity here. I will be curious to see if they're happy with this as a police vehicle, and if they add more Subies and/or other AWDs to their fleet in the future...

Snippet: "We chose the Subaru Legacy because we were looking for an all-wheel drive vehicle with solid performance and handling capabilities," said Mike Merrill, Sergeant, Traffic Division, Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. "We also needed a vehicle that could perform in all types of weather conditions that we experience here in the Northwest and we ultimately were impressed with the Subaru Legacy's active safety features and its high safety ratings."

Oh wow, I wonder if Subaru will sell Legacies with a police package.

Remove the chrome on the nose and make it black and that would make it more stealthy

Glad I don't have to drive through Kitsap County much... although my GF's parents live up there and we visit now and then, might actually have to do the speed limit.

Cops tend to pick bigger/wider cars, so I'm surprised they didn't choose an AWD Charger or Magnum. I guess they wanted stealth, in this case.

ateixeira i don't think the Charger comes in AWD. The Magnum is already in use in a lot of places, but as a wagon it probably adds weight.

The Legacy is an interesting choice for a police car. A nice change from the Impalas/Crown Victorias used now.

AWD will be offered in the Charger starting with 2007 models.
