Subaru's New York debut has been blown by Motor Trend. The May issue of MT is starting to hit the news stands over a week before the car was to debut at the New York Auto Show, much to Subaru's displeasure, I'm sure.
It sounds like the engine and trannys are carryovers from the '07 WRX,
or at least are just tweaked versions of what's now on the market. The
wheelbase has grown, so you can expect more rear legroom...
The wagon is
no more, but is replaced by a snappy looking 5-door hatch. The sedan
remains. The dash now has a space for a navigation unit, probably in combination with the radio.

Wonder if the photo's are genuine? Will have to wait a week to find out.
Geez, that rear end looks like a Tribeca. To call that front end as ugly as a Tribeca's would be endearing.
Oh, no kudos for you Subaru. Throw it back!
Wow, the WRX is now a Mazda3/Kia rio clone. But even more bland!
I'm holding off on final comments until I see really good images and/or see it in person. Subarus always look better in person.
Looks like a Mazda 3 to me. Zoom Zoom imitator?
So much for embargos - pretty soon the print mags will be outta luck...
With the new Mitsu Evo looking as good as it does, this Sube is gonna be hurtin'...
Mazda3 looks good, so that's a good thing.
I see the biggest improvements inside, with that swoopy dash, one good quality it seemed to inherit from the Tribeca.
I guess Inside Line never heard of APRIL FOOLS? Cmon, look at the background of the photos, waaay too abstract for M/T; besides, 1 guy gets the May issue before the April issue is out? I smell BS.
imclarkkent , I know for a fact it's not phony.
Then MotorTrend is getting a letter for craptasticness. "I know for a fact". How's that? Everyone's an expert. I'm calling BS until other sources than this forum member can authenticate it, or we get an official response from M/T for the inadvertant leak.
I'll have to let your guys know for sure but I think I usually get say the April issue of C&D at the beginning of March, so I wouldn't doubt it.
MT (and Automobile) issues always come out at least a month early. I got April's issue a couple weeks ago.
It's the May issue, and I know a couple of people who have it.
I just got it in the mail today. And right smack on the front is a picture of that hideous WRX.
According to the new Inside Line first look the new WRX carries over the same engine and the same transmissions. That is just sad. Now I realize that a car like this shouldn't be driven with an automatic, but a 4 speed? Subcompacts are starting to have 5-speed autos. Four is just giving up. Congrats to Mitsubishi.
I stand corrected. thumbs up.
too freanch looking...kill the mustach look it sucks
