Word out of the UK says that rally specialist Prodrive may end up owning Aston Martin. Prodrive is located in England, and is a key part of Subaru's rally efforts, as well as being involved with other motorsports and automakers, including Aston Martin.
FANtastic! Can you imagine what David Richards will do with AM? Wow. I mean, the Prodrive P1 was one of my fav. cars. The Prodrive P2 (which was based off of a modified Subie R1 platform and had the 2.5L from the USDM STi) never had a company to "back" it for production but maybe this will enable Prodrive to create it. I'm salivating just at the thought. There was an article in F1 Central recently talking about Honda and how they're missing "something". You can probably trace it back to when BAR-Honda nixed Richards... They were ultra competitive then... Oh well. This can only mean great things to come from Prodrive/AM.. I'm hoping this happens!
carlisimo: yeah, i can't wait to see what Prodrive will do in F1. i know they'll be struggling for a couple of seasons to catch up... then again... if they get the right package together off the bat... you never know... there were rumors circling that if Prodrive bought AM that the F1 program might be pushed back a year... but i don't know how credible those sources (the F1 forum) were... either way... i can't wait...
Way to make a shameless plug for Subaru's rally efforts through Prodrive, Bob! :o)
I hope this doesn't affect Prodrive F1's effort though.
It would be all that and a bag of chips if Prodrive could somehow produce the P2 at a somewhat reasonable price point as a result of acquiring Aston Martin.
Match made in heaven.
Can you imagine a racing company engineering what are already the most beautiful cars in the world? My mouth waters at the prospect.
Ooh, and Prodrive is starting up a Formula 1 team in 2008. Imagine Aston Martin joining the grid!
