Spy shots: 2009 BMW X6 uncovered -- and it's not pretty
We hate to say it, but these latest spy shots appear to show the 2009 BMW X6 in full production trim. Well, maybe not full trim as some of the details are still covered, but enough to see that this BMW could take over "most ridiculed" status from the 7 Series when the SUV goes on sale next year. Not good.
Well, when you think about it, in BMW model language "6" series models have always been coupes, and this appears to be an industrial-strength coupe as I had indicated in this earlier blog entry on the X6.
I see it aimed at the Infiniti FX models mostly. When the FX first came out, I didn't like it at all. Obviously I was wrong, as it turned into a big hit for the Infiniti brand; and in time, I too have come to appreciate the FX.
Taken in that context I really don't mind the X6. In fact I kinda like it. No doubt it will stir up lots of discussion, both pro and con. The only real question that matters is how will BMW customers react?
BMWs have always, in my humble opinion, looked ugly, but i love the way they drive. thats why i used to have a 7 series. IMO, the best looking BMW was the 2002 5 series.
Some of you just do not understand German humour. For the record let me say that we take humour very seriously. Now I realise that the majority will see this car as the Teutonic Aztec but they are missing the subtle design harmony of the total Gestalt. This is a car where you must think driving pleasure never mind the crowd watching you asking what ze hell was that. This car may indeed make the Prius look sexy but it will help BMW to show the company's human side with all its failings. Yes even in Munich we can come up with a crock complete with our signature Hofmeister window but as they say there is one born every minute so it should sell like ....... Now look again at our new baby and enjoy because chances are it will be facelifted before you can say Chris Bangle. Oh dear what have we done?
You know, I don't think the design's that bad...it's just the ground clearance that makes it look weird. Otherwise, it looks like a really attractive BMW hatchback.
I surely cannot jest over a subject as abstract as this. I'm not saying it's as ugly as the Aztek (the CRX took the same form and executed it flawlessly), but one cannot argue against the general shape.
I don't know what you are all looking at but its obvious that Daimler Benz is selling ideas to BMW. That is clearly a Dodge caliber in BMW camo. And you know how well they're doing.
If the '09 drives and handles the way a BMW 6 enthusiast expects it to, does it really matter that much about its exterior look? That enthusiast's sitting __inside__ the car, hopefully enjoying what the car was made to do.
You look at the rear from the front for a long time it sort of looks like a mazda 3. But I dont think it looks ugly, but i also dont think it looks good, i'd just prefer another suv, or whatever the x6 is. on a scale of 1-10 i'd give it a 6.
Seems like a pointless vehicle to me, BMW already has 5 series wagons, the X5, and an upcoming V series or whatever, there's really no place for this car in their lineup. It's not ugly, but noy pretty either, just average.
I'd rather see them build a CLS competitor instead.
GOOFY. Did I mention that it looks goofy? By the way, that thing is goofy lookin. And as I was looking at the pictures, goofy was the word that came to mind. Ahh, how I long for the days when the AMC Pacer were alive. But thanks to this car, I can now relive those memories, albeit in a much better engineered version, goofballiness and all. STOP THE SUV MADNESS and focus on bringing this country the 1series and more afordable Bimmers, not this depressed-and- looking-for-a-deversion-husband/father-and-regretting-I-married-her-mobile.
actually i think its very cute the back looks nothing like an aztek it looks like the old bmw 3 series hatchback its very diffrent not ugly i really dont think there is anything ugly from bmw, however that mercedes R class, new S class, and CLS are UGLY they either look like a huge lemon or a big hearse (the r class) so i think this design will go far cause if u think about it they said the seven series was ugly but look how much they sell i charleston south carolina they are every where!
BMW could simply re-badge the Aztec and it would blow off the shelves right into the hands of the "me-too" yuppies that drive BMW's. Don't get me wrong, I love bimmers and I know they're top-notch drivers but most people buy a BMW to be "seen" in a BMW.
I understand the marketing stance of building a vehicle to be all things to all people, but I really don't like SUVs/Crossovers whatever you want to call them. Give me a nice handling coupe or sedan and when I need to help my friends move I will rent a truck...
For all of us who enjoy the heck out of our X5's for various reasons, particularly the V8; here's my sentiment-- "That thing is just straight Jacked up lookin!" Despite the drive characteristics... And I would hope BMW comes to their senses before the reality of moving forward with production. Crossover or not!

Aztek! First thought that came to mind, anyway...
It still has 4 doors. Execution isn't very good. It looks chunky and the trunk screams Legacy.
Aztek! Surely you jest...
Looks fine from the B-pillar forward.
The rear view is a train wreck.
Looks better and more useful to me than the e9x cars (including the homely e92 335i coupe). Shrug.
What's the big deal. Looks fine and they always looks better with the tape off.
Now put a diesel in it!

Call me crazy, but what I see is a modern day AMC SX/4 with a Bimmer grille. (Anyone remember those?)
You know, I don't think the design's that bad...it's just the ground clearance that makes it look weird. Otherwise, it looks like a really attractive BMW hatchback.
Aztec is right. This car looks horrible and I love BMW. It's just really ugly. And the price point will probably be higher than the current X5. Yuck
I like it.

Ahhh, the spiritual successor to the AMC Eagle has moved to Germany.
Tell me it isn't a 4door version of this car:

Looks like a coupe version of the X5
looks like BMW's version of the Dodge Caliber.

I like it. It's just what it's meant to be. A cross between a car and an suv.

I am sure it will do well in the marketplace though... BMW usually does.
I would like to reserve judement until the final product is released... I like the swooping roofline.
(WITH MUSIC)
You know I like big butts,
... yeah I like big butts!

Looks more like the ill planned Cayenne in the front than a Caliber.

Does look a little better without all that tape on it. But not much.
Enough of all this aztek-look-a-like stuff, this bmw looks awesome, the styling of the car is futuristic and i love it
Heh, this ain't no Aztek.
It's a ripoff of the Infiniti EX35.
Yeah, BMW, Infiniti just called- they want their design for the EX35 back.
BMW returned that call. They said they had no idea what an EX35 is, but they partied with the designer of the FX35...
i agree with stb43 i think it looks awsome and the infiniti fx35 wish it looked that good

It will sell regardless of how it looks.
