Iceland hoping to become world's first oil-free nation
Iceland installed world first hydrogen fuel station back in 2003, and has plans to be the the world's first oil-free nation. This not surprising when you consider gas costs $8.00 per gallon. And because of that, they are in the process of establishing a hydrogen-based transportation system. The question is will there be enough vehicles to support it?..
GM is hoping to have a production hydrogen-powered vehicle by 2010, but that's only one vehicle.
Beside hydrogen, Iceland is becoming a test bed for electric cars, as many major carmakers have electric vehicles running around Reykjavik, the nation's capital.

Why are people commenting here rather than under the full article over at Green Car Advisor?
Because no one reads the Green car advisor.
I wonder if they can secure enough supply of hydrogen, and get a distribution system in place.
Getting Hydrogen is easy, you just need electricity to separate it from the O2 in water. Iceland is in the unique position to have massive thermal energy to generate electricity.
For everyone else it's not a good solution.
