2007 LA Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Viper ACR

With the green theme adopted in most automakers' press conferences, it was no shocker that the decidedly antisocial 2008 Dodge Viper ACR got the shaft. Not a word was mentioned about it during Chrysler's SUV festival. Instead, the 600-hp Viper ACR sat awkwardly on stage left, looking like a guy who accidentally showed up at an Amish village wearing only banana sling underwear and a ski mask.

With its carbon-fiber front canards, deep splitter, flashy paint, and a rear wing the size of Africa, no one will mistake the ACR (American Club Racer) for a standard-issue Viper.

Clearly a track toy, the ACR also adds KW coilovers with adjustable dampers and ride height, and a bespoke front stabilizer bar. You can save 40 pounds by deleting the sound system and sound deadening.

It's ghastly, no doubt, but who cares? Name a faster street-legal car for under $100,000, which is where Chrysler has the ACR pegged. You can order yours in the summer of 2008.

"You can save 40 pounds by deleting the sound system and sound deadening" - No thanks!

Yes but how many tenths per lap do you gain? Let's find out, shall we? ;-)

Spoken like a true racer, Dan. :)
