Subaru's Christmas present

As I suspected would happen, a few more '09 Subaru Forester images surfaced just over at NASIOC—and— word has it that FHI will release undisguised images on Christmas Day in Japan. ...So, Ho! Ho! Ho!.. And Merry Christmas to all!

Interesting design detail is that the hood cut line goes over to the far outside edge of the fender.

Here's Inside Line's take: Tease: 2009 Subaru Forester

Is Subaru Santa giving us another lump of coal for Christmas?

Don't think so. Even though we haven't seen a whole lot yet, early responses from those who have seen these images are really positive—much more so than with any other Subie in recent memory.

I think for the intended audience, it will be a big hit.

It looks nice, and if it gets the 5 speed auto and turbo engine currently in the Outback, that would be a real winner to me. Also noted the dual exhausts on the picture.

But it's puzzling - the Japanese Subaru site says 25 days until this new Forester. I assume they mean 25 days until the site shows new info about the '09 Forester ? Or are Japanese auto model dates ahead of ours by a whole year?

The current Impreza WRX and Outback XT Limited are nice, but each has limitations the new Forester may not have. I may wait a year for this one.

Back seat leg room is the single greatest limitation of the current Forester IMO. Fix that and I'd own a Forester.
I just hope that the new model is not heavier than the current one.
Bigger, heavier, less fuel efficient, higher HP is not what I'm hoping will be delivered.

Bigger it is. I think the engines will be similar to what's being currently offered.

The current Forester is very light, FWIW. The last redesign (2003) was lighter than the 2002 model, and the new Impreza also lost a little weight compared to its predecessor.

This is going to be a hit. With a four and a half inch wheelbase stretch and a more compact rear suspension, plus that boxy shape, it'll be cavernous inside.

Add to that the best styled Forester ever, and they'll have a winner. Mark my words.

I'm still not entirely sold on Subaru's new grilles... but I do really like the rest of the car. I actually looked to buy an 04 Forester 5 speed this summer. They are really great cars, not the best looking, but reliable and practical.

And I agree with ateixeira, this will be a hit with the compact SUV crowd.

If they offer a $500 LL Bean certificate for the first batch of buyers, we may be in that group. They did that when the 06 Tribeca came out.
