2008 Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Perhaps you've heard that Chrysler is producing this muscle car called the Dodge Challenger.

And you know what? It actually kicks ass. Yes, even after the years of buildup... Even after a long-winded introduction in which Chrysler executives touched on every car-related cliche. Even after a particularly pointless and also lifeless appearance by Paul and Paully Teutul from American Chopper. Even though the chrome-look fuel-filler door is plastic, the "carbon fiber" hood stripes are stickers and one of the hood vents on the display car was falling out. Even after all of that, the Challenger is cool.

Dodge rolled in a black one to its press conference to accompany the now-familiar orange and recently unveiled silver ones. If the Angel of Death needed a new set of wheels, he could do worse than a black Challenger.

By now you know everything about the car itself, right? If not, read our first drive story. But know this: Cars are cool. Black cars are cooler. So what if the thing doesn't help sell any Avengers or Journeys, we want one. -- Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit

That black one looks mighty fine! Any way I can get one with white stripes going down the middle?

I want to see one in Lime Green or Plum Crazy, just like the old days.

There are cool cars
Then there is a Black Challenger
Im not big on the wheels or the ram logo on the hood but other wise this is a AMAZING car and it has been worth the wait

Looks good, but the interior is a direct copy from the Charger, and it is too heavy, too slow, and too inefficient. Dodge just made Ford and Chevy's job a LOT easier.

inside looks nothing like the concept! too bad.
Still is cooler than the mustang

This car is STEAMING HOT!!!

I like how it looks like it did in 1972. Though I don't like how they only offer three colors. Pus I can't wait for the Roush.

Even with the fake stuff, it still looks cool.

I'm not a Dodge fan (I'd pick the Camaro) but I have to say that if I was in the market for a new car I would still give this at least a test drive (maybe I'd get won over?). I do agree that it's better execution than the Mustang. Too bad this car doesn't come with the 1970's price.
