2008 Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS

"The Porsche RS Spyder was launched in this same Chicago room a year ago," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, "and look at the successful year it had."

But superstition isn't the only reason Porsche decided to unveil its new 2008 Cayenne GTS in the Windy City. As Schwarzenbauer explained, "Chicago is the fifth largest Porsche market in North America, and 50 percent of Porsche sales in Chicago are Cayenne."

Porsche is hoping Chicagoans will embrace the 405-horsepower Cayenne GTS, complete with a Cayenne Turbo front fascia, standard 21-inch tires and sport seats for front and rear passengers.

Two new colors will be exclusive to the Cayenne GTS: Nordic Gold and GTS Red. Unfortunately, we're forced to show you the SUV in everyday silver...

The Cayenne GTS is available immediately starting at $69,300. -- Kelly Toepke, News Editor

Interesting that Porsche has a presence at this show, and not Detroit.

I've read Porsche's justification for not being at Detroit, and I don't buy it. Do they really think there are more customers in Illinois than in Michigan?

I love how Porsche sells these things because they have the Porsche name. It's not a Porsche. It's a VW/Audi/Porsche money-grubbing scheme. It's smart, monetarily, to do this. But it's eroding the soul of a great sports car company. I don't think it's bad for GM to have platforms. But Caddy doesn't share its fantastic Sigma architechture with any of the other brands, or else we would've already had a proper Camaro, Trans-Am Impala, Chevelle, you name it.

thats an ugly front end.

People may not agree that there should be a Porsche SUV, especially a VW based one, but if there had to be one, this is exactly what it should be(except maybe a little prettier)
It has also helped the company grow whcih ends up helping development of cars like the new GT2 and a next gen Boxter and Cayman

Looks nice. But seriously when is the Panamera coming out??

The face-lift helped it some, but I'm still not comfortable with the idea.

Cayennes depreciate fast, they're cheap used, if you're interested.
