Adam Carolla, former host of
The Man Show on Comedy Central and the
Loveline radio show, confirmed this morning that hes working on the U.S. version of
Top Gear. It happened during a question and answer session with fans of his syndicated morning talk show based in Los Angeles. When asked about his upcoming network project, Carolla responded, Im not sure if Im allowed to talk about it, but its a show out of England called Top Gear
If you like cars, youll like this show. So there's one host confirmed, any guesses who the other hosts might be?..

This is surprising. I checked his bio and found he's an "avid car enthusiast". I'm not exactly convinced, but I do approve his taste in cars.

couldn't have gone better. As hard as it will be to get the presenters for hte US version, I'm quite satisfied with Adam being one of them.
I'm honestly not sure who else would even be interested in cars. The only two other names I've heard thrown around were Leno and Seinfeld. I can't really see Jerry doing it, but Leno already works for NBC, so maybe... but it would put an awful big crimp on his tonight show stuff... unless they wanna accelerate the changeover to Conan, which I'd be COMPLETELY fine with.
but whatever, regardless of how it goes, I'm at least fine with this news.
And with that name, they already have product placement and sponsorship built right in. Score one for the marketing guys!
Lame. Why do they have to make an American version? Part of the charm of the show IS that it's unabashedly British.
I have been trying to imagine a decent host for the US version of top gear. Adam Corolla seems to be a great pick. He is an avid car guy. I agree the British charm of the UK show is great. but our (US) lack of auto programs relevant to the new car industy should make this show a hit!
At first I thought "Wow, this guy is perfect. He is even named after a car!" Then, I checked estreka's link, and found that his last name seems to be "Carolla" not "Corolla."
I can see why they don't have Leno or Seinfeld. Can you imagine what it would cost per episode to have these guys host the show?
Much better to get some cool new guys and spend the money on something interesting.
Who's he? This guy's not on speed channel! They should really think about putting Tommy Kendal on topgear.
not a bad pick, wonder who the other 2 are
Not that it makes a difference, but since the UK Version is "unabashadly" British, the US Version should be "unabashadly" American - or at least how we're stereotyped overseas....get Jon Reep to co-star! =)
The 2nd host should be someone from the auto industry, not another comedian.
Adam always worked well with a more serious sidekick.
US Version should be "unabashadly" American - or at least how we're stereotyped overseas.
In other words, make it for the Nascar set. No thanks.
I'll continue to Tivo the real Top Gear and avoid channels/shows devoted to inane practices like modding cars and driving cars in circles. I prefer the cheeky humor, the digs on all countries, the unapologetic love of cars (not trucks, not suvs, but cars - especially non-American).
Guess I'm alone on this but the American-ized version will never get on my TV.
A bit early to condemn it, aren't we blueguy? The mere fact of being American in and of itself shouldn't be a deal breaker. I'll continue watching the BBC version, but I'll also give this a try. Could be fun seeing a Top Gear with cars that are offered for sale here. And it beats the heck out of another night of Deal or No Deal. At any rate, I'll give the show a chance.
Can Carolla actually drive? The hosts of the real Top Gear can at least find their way around a track.
Typical anti-nationalist American...bashing it before its been made...I bet you think everyone that watches nascar is white as well.
Good grief, someone call the fashion police!
isn't he busy touring with the Wiggles - that is him, right?
