Subaru Legacy STI S402

In what is likely the last special edition model based on the current Legacy platform, Subaru has introduced the very special and very limited STI S402 for some very special Japanese customers.

Available in either sedan or wagon, Subaru has loaded up the Legacy GT with many STI performance parts, as well as some items that are exclusive to this vehicle. The end result being envy of just about every Subie driver worldwide.

One item that's exclusive to this model is that this is the first 2.5 Subaru that has a twin-scroll turbo (pictured)... The JDM 2.0 turbos have had twin-scroll capability for some time. I'm hoping we will see this offered on US-spec models in the future, as it greatly improves power throughout the rev range.

The car goes on sale in Japan at the end of June.

Thanks for info, but the Subaru twin-scroll Turbo hide-and-seek is getting wierd.

The '09 USA Forester got a new turbo design this year, and supposedly that's also a twin-scroller, given the car has the characteristics of one, with little lag and a relatively flat powerband.

It would really be nice if someone at Edmunds could ask Subaru specifically what Subaru vehicles in the USA have twin-scrollers.

I would like to see the turbo application on the 3.0 6 cyl. engine.

kurtamaxxxguy, the 2009 FXT does *not* have a twin-scroll turbo. Somebody at Subaru goofed in the PR materials or something.

As far as I know, the engine (and turbo) are shared with the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX which uses a detuned Legacy 2.5GT engine with a Mitsubishi TD04 turbo.

Thnx for correction - cars101.com posts similar specs for WRX and FXT-L.
Ah well; FXT-L's improved in any case. Perhaps down the road an upgrade will be available.

A turbo swap and higher capacity fuel injectors should do the trick, my friend.

When are you going to post pics of the FXT on your CarSpace page? :o)

No camera to take pics with.

Aw. :(

No Legacy Wagon sold in the USA!
Darn!

Yet another cool Subaru we won't see here in the US.
