2009 F-150 and Ram 1500: New models in Tough Times
There's nothing much that can be done, as these vehicles were designed and planned for when truck sales were booming. Now the truck market is tanking and both Ford and Dodge have all-new 1/2-ton models that are about debut in one of the toughest truck markets ever seen. What's their chances of success? Is there anything that Ford and Dodge can do to, short of giving them away, to help these models succeed this fall when they arrive at dealers?
they are dead in the water just like the Tundra.
I think Toyota Tacoma sales will dominate Toyota's market and I hope Ford and Dodge have some good compact/midsize pickups w/ stellar 4 and 6 cyl engines coming soon...
Math skills are fine, going from 1st to 5th is a huge drop.
That said, it's really meaningless. There's a huge amount of knee jerk over reaction going on right now. The price jump in gas and oil is way over inflated and it can only down (but don't ask me when).
People who need (or just like) pick ups will continue to buy them. They just won't do it today. A month or 2 from now when gas prices have dropped a buck or so, things will be back closer to normal.... for better or worse.
Gas prices are indeed overinflated, but the forces at work aren't going to just disappear. As long as oil companies continue to hold all the cards, oil futures will continue to go up.
With construction and renovation projects at an all time low, who will buy a brand new truck in this period?
I hope their base V6 models are fuel-efficient. They might still sell a few.

The Ford F-150 is the fifth best selling vehicle in the USA.
Fifth place in the entire market of 300 or so car models is bad???
Fifth out of 300 is bad???
What has come of Americans' math skills...
When you were #1 for years and years, and are now #5 and sinking fast..
If it's not an issue, why do you think Ford is so worried?
